We are strongly tempted to designate this the very finest Muscle Shoals deep soul album EVER recorded, but we are afraid that Aretha Franklin or Etta James may be greatly offended (their "Lady Soul" and "Tell Mama" albums, respectively, are strong runner-ups).

The thing is, this is a 24-karat soul, the kind of they don't make - or can't make - anymore. Amazing, emotionally gripping, listening experience, and the backup band (which is the entire Muscle Shoals studio band, plus Floyd Newman, plus the Mar-keys,a/k/a Memphis Horns) that leaves absolutely nothing to be desired. The album includes a whole slew of classic Andrew Oldham-Dan Penn soul ballads, including the finest ballad Clarence Carter ever, um…penned: "I can't see myself". But the true Grand Prize here is in the rhythm section. If you are a bass player, this album is a MANDATORY LISTENING. (a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VERY GOOD++ . CAUTION: The vinyl is NOT MINT or NEAR MINT, but is nevertheless in a very nice and clean condition. There are some surface marks and abrasions, mostly light and superficial, although some may be longer than 1.1/4 inches (1 inch = 2.5 centimeters)

(b)          The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve.

(c)             The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has a partially split bottom seam (between 2 and 4 inches  / 5 to 10 centimeters)

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-         Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging   (nothing significant).

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the seams

-         Cover has a visible "wrinkle"(crease)  in one of the corners.

-         Visible shelf wear noted on the seams

-         Cover has a small cutout hole in one of the corners

-         The cover has a few tiny scratch marks on the back side (nothing significant)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels (except for the 'hype' sticker)

-        No water damage

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
