Description
This is a strange record: the University of Nebraska at Omaha Jazz Ensemble playing a concert with Clark Terry as a featured soloist. Apparently Terry was teaching a workshop at the university and it all ended up with one big concert, which they recorded and had pressed in a very limited run by some private pressing house which made cheap low-run records. It is actually pretty great, and Terry is of course incredible and plays all over it.
The weird thing is the condition. The record is a little warped, but it does play without skipping or warbling. There seems to have been some heat damage or something to one edge, making the warp and a slight swish that lasts only a short time at the beginning of the record. As soon as the music starts you can't really hear it anyway. What is weird is that I several years ago bought a box of about 10 of these records from a fellow in Omaha who played in the band that night, and they ALL were damaged in this same way. The guy I bought them from said the entire run was cheap and hardly any copies played perfectly. Anyhow I have sold them off little by little over the years, and saved this last copy because it was the one that played the best. But now it can be yours. I understand this is a little hard to explain the sound very well, so if you have questions please ask. I could even arrange to play it for you over the phone or something. Anyhow I will say honestly that it plays very well and the only issue is at the beginning of both sides, and it is not a big deal. It is otherwise perfect, and a very enjoyable Clark Terry rarity.
