Born July 8, 1908, Brinkley, Arkansas;
died February 4, 1975, Los Angeles, California

The Father of the Rhythm & Blues came out of the blues world of Brinkley, Arkansas, to play in Chick Webb's swing band from 1932 to 1938; he played alto sax and participated in comedy routines.

He began recording for Decca in 1938 with his own Tympany Five, remaining on the label until 1953.

In all these, he pursued a basic rhythm of Shuffle Boogie, later taken over by early Rock 'n' Roll. As he said, he "made the blues jump," and in so doing, influenced B. B. King, Chuck Berry, and Bill Haley.

Louis Jordan Let The Good Times Roll

"Let the Good Times Roll" is a song was recorded in 1946 by Louis Jordan and his Tympany Five, and became a # 2 hit on the R&B chart in the United States.

The song was written by "Lovin'" Sam Theard (1904-1982), a New Orleans-born blues singer and songwriter, and was co-credited to Fleecie Moore. Moore was Louis Jordan's wife, and was sometimes given credit on songs which Jordan himself had written to get around music publishing restrictions.

The song was later recorded by many artists including Ray Charles, B. B. King, Georgie Fameand Albert King.

Louis Jordan - Ain`t That Just Like A Woman

"Ain't That Just Like a Woman (They'll Do it Every Time)" is a 1946 song by Louis Jordan and His Tympany Five. The song went to number one on the US R&B Jukebox chart for two weeks and peaked at number seventeen on the pop chart . The lyrics are credited to Claude Demetrius and Fleecie Moore. The latter was his wife and Jordan himself may have in fact been the co-writer.

The song lists women in history who have tormented men. Looking over this pattern, it recounts that this is typical behaviour, and warns men to watch out. The women mentioned are Eve, Lot's wife, Delilah and Marie Antoinette. One verse refers to Roman emperor Nero in the same vein as the women.

Chuck Berry apparently copied the guitar intro and parts of the melody (sometimes played by Jordan's band on horns) for his song "Johnny B. Goode".
