Record Label: Classic Records/Columbia ML 4001

The very FIRST 33 1/3 LP ever released gets the ultimate update from Audiophile label, Classic Records. Recorded in 1945, Carnegie Hall in New York,  the first 12" recording was released on June 28, 1948, and sold at a premium price of $4.85. ML4001 was mastered direct-to-disc on 16-inch lacquer.  By 1949 magnetic tape was used for mastering.

Highly collectable release from audiophile label, Classic Records. This title was mastered by Classic Records at Half Speed from the original source master tapes. An all-analog, tube amplification process was used at every step. Classic Records used a proprietary vinyl that guaranteed virtually no surface noise and sonically superior dynamics.

Classic Records pride themselves for releasing each album with the original artwork, LP labels and any other materials which were included with original pressings.

Record is new and still sealed in it's original plastic sleeve. Perforation is completely intact. Corners are sharp, colors vibrant and spine is straight. There are no flaws or blemishes. 100% mint.

Review: The first Columbia 12" LP is ML 4001, Mendelssohn: Concerto number 2 in E minor for violin and orchestra, op. 64. Nathan Milstein, violin; New York Philharmonic, conducted by Bruno Walter. Recorded 16 March 1945 at Carnegie Hall. Classic Records reissued this LP in 1998 as a 50th anniversary commemoration of the original LP release, carefully transferred from the original 16" 33 1/3 rpm session lacquer discs.
