So hard to find CLEAN....Original 1968 first pressing vinyl of the great 3rd album by SPIRIT ...
"Clear" was written largely in the wake of their work on the soundtrack to the 1968 film Model Shop. A growing number of fans feel that it is one of their finest, if not the finest, album the group would ever make. Possibly because of the rushed work on the album, there is a larger reliance upon playing with plenty of complex layered instrumenmtal passages created by several members -- more so than their first two albums, perhaps most exemplified by the three instrumental pieces penned by keyboardist John Locke. It also features their sound gaining depth and sprawling out even more than it previously had, as they even attempt everything from the bluesy "So Little Time To Fly" to tightly constructed multi-part songs like "Dark Eyed Woman" and "New Dope In Town". Stylistically, "Clear" is a precursor to the band's next album, Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus.
Clear Spirit delivers a mix of hook-filled rockers ("Dark Eyed Woman"), moody and symphonic compositions ("Cold Wind"), socio-political rock songs ("1984"), and infectious melodies ("Give a Life, Take a Life"). There are also instrumental passages by keyboardist John Locke (including the gorgeous "Ice") and the revved-up fuzzed-psych of Jay Ferguson's "Ground Hog" & "I'm Truckin'" ... Though it lacks a hit single to match that of the band's previous album "(I Got a Line on You"), CLEAR SPIRIT is nonetheless a further step forward for this ambitious band and 'Dark Eyed Woman' was the hit single that never was. However, it proved to be the last Spirit album produced by Lou Adler at ODE records. Other highlight includes the rocked-out Spirit:
