One of the best albums to come from the San Francisco scene in the late 60s. The songwriting is top level and the instrumental jams are fabulous.
Fantastic album of tightly arranged psychedelic-rock and extended compositions. John Cippolina's quivery guitar playing is stunning, and the dense epic album closer The Fool is a masterpiece of composition noteworthy for innovation in the use of guitar effects. Six songs, all standouts. No offense at all to The Grateful Dead, or The Jefferson Airplane (two GREAT bands), but this is about the best San Fransisco psychedelic rock album -- just on a different level.
Quicksilver Messenger Service was one of the finest bands to come out the Bay Area's improvisatory acid rock scene in the '60s. The twin guitars of John Cippolina and Gary Duncan made for the kind of spontaneous sonic dreamscapes that marked the finer examples of the genre. Like that of its San Francisco brethren, the band's early repertoire consisted largely of long pieces with extended instrumental passages, allowing for plenty of interplay between the musicians. The 12-minute jamfest "The Fool" is a good example of this seminal group's dynamic energy as captured on this debut album.
- "Pride Of Man" – 4:08
- "Light Your Windows" – 2:38
- "Dino's Song" – 3:08

- "It's Been Too Long" – 3:01
- "The Fool" – 12:07
CONDITION: The dark foil cover is so hard to find clean, almost near impossible -- this copy has been in careful hands, VG++ to "EX" (excellent) nice display copy still in original factory shrink wrapper (the cellphane wrapper is partly missing at bottom right and very light scuffing from shelf wear is in the small area of missing cellophane, The outer cellophane is otherwise very tight and all on the MINT back cover ... altogether, no split seams, no bends and no writing with 4 sharp corners ...NICE all around!
The vinyl is VG++ to "EX" (excellent) small small minor scuff here or there, nothing much really, vastly clear and plays enjoyable ...great collectible of anthem psychedelics !
A cool addition to anyone's music library!
