Obscure and exotic UK oddity led by the sitar player from Magic Carpet. Creative and groundbreaking indo jazz cum raga rock eastern psych with improv explorations. Clem plays his sitar through a wah wah pedal for amplification and virtuoso guitarist, Amancio D'Silva is amongst the session players. Side one is called "Mirror Image (Dawn Of A New Day)" and is a fabulous example of eccentric English jazz with groovy rock nuances closer to the Krautrock aesthetic. An amazing quintet, psychedelic on the long intro and funky midway with Clem's, sitar weaving in and out of basslines and fender rhodes, guitar and drums. This is the opening track on our soundclip :) Side two has a more traditional and intimate raga feel with tambura and tabla. Beautiful music. Absorbing, ambient and meditative so we recorded the exquistite sitar drone and blissful notes of "Raga Charukeshi (Evening)" featuring Bombay tabla man No1, Keshav Sathe. John Mayer (the Indian composer who recorded Indo-Jazz Suite with Jamaican born jazz musician, Joe Harriott in 1966) wrote the liner notes. Oh, and we've never seen a sleeve like this before with an intended double spine (the top edge is the same as the spine, complete with title and label details). Great for leftfield DJs. RECORD - shiny, strong VG++ regardless of any faint hairlines or faint light scuffs / disc cut loud with big production sound / natural light background noises / a few soft ticks in places
SLEEVE - original soft card sleeve is strong VG+ (actually better) with light wear / mini tear to middle of open side / corner and edge wear in places / ring creasing and a hint of ring wear to top area of front sleeve / natural age discoloration with yellowing to back sleeve / no spine or seam splits / bottom seam has become a little unstuck at the open side corner but can be easily fixed
LABEL - bright looking / minimal wear / a few faint old dirt marks from storage
After a 2 year gap, Pourquoi Moi Vintage is back :)
