Label/Format: Parlophone with matt, smooth surfaces. Side two has the embossed ‘K T’ tax codes, both letters are mint as made.

Label Conditions: Both in supreme condition: ultra clean, fresh and attractive with only a couple of tiny very light, fine and faint spindle marks and no wear around the hole area. These come as close to looking as-made as they are likely to ever get.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Brief Info: Cliff Bennett and The Rebel Rousers were another top-quality British beat band of the 1960s. Never quite as successful as some more famous other bands of a similar ilk, their music was more full-on with a fuller-sound and depth due to the use of brass that possibly was not to the taste of some of the younger music buyers of the time. But still an important of the British beat movement, their albums were far less easy to find. This 1967 album features the Lennon/McCartney hit single of the same name and some superb RnB tracks. All heard to nigh-on perfection on a Parlophone record that appears hardly even played. The cover is almost equally impressive as well and this vintage beat gem will even appeal to the connoisseur collectors, most of these types are usually seen played to destruction with sound to match. This truly comes close to reminding of new, and few these days ever will.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(+): and this being somewhat critical, only a few spine edge hairlines stop a higher grading. A single format with front laminate, this covers all the folds and ends on three rear external flipbacks. The main back panel is matt and smooth. Printed and made in England by Garrod & Lofthouse with ‘Patents pending’ text. The original plain white ‘PATENTS APPLIED FOR’ inner sleeve is included.

Lamination & Front: A superb looking front with a hugely impressive deep coloured picture as seen under very shiny, fresh and clear laminate. Just a little dulling seen under light near the top and bottom rim areas which few can hope to avoid totally. Just a tiny lift near the top left corner that shows little and around half-a-dozen fine spine edge creases with little visibility either when viewed normally full-on. Just a couple of gentle ones away from the sides again largely lost. A front in age-defying condition that will take a huge amount of beating.

Cover Back: The unprotected back is even better and could justifiably be graded Mint(–). The original price of 36-6 is neatly written in pencil near the top left corner – this evaluates to £182.5 in today’s money – this could easily be erased, but I think this adds history to this 1960s record. With hardly any blemishes to the white card back, this looks superb. Uncreased or rubbed and barely even a hint of age darkening. All flipbacks are equally impressive as well with clean ends, minimal traces of any burring and solid. The laminate on them with hardly any creasing which is near impossible to find. So two fantastic sides that lead you directly back to the 1960s before you even listen to the gorgeous record.

Top & Bottom Edges: Both straight and totally unworn or chipped, the laminate smooth and unscuffed.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, mostly sharp with very little wear. Any thickening or burring gentle with a little seen on the front viewed end-on and light as seen viewed end-on. Record enters on this edge that is guaranteed untrimmed or enhanced.

Spine and Text: Little short of Mint as made. Solid, straight with barely any hint of compression. All text is perfect and unworn under the solid and uncracked laminate, also very well centred as seen.

Corners: Beautifully crisp and sharp with hardly any hint of rubbing or wear at all. No knocks or dinks with near perfect shape.

Cover Summary: A very strong all-round example of this more elusive 1960’s beat-act cover, one that will prove very difficult to find much better. This beautiful item should please many, if not most collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT(++): a plain white unlined inner with ‘PATENTS APPLIED FOR’ text. Aged little with hardly any creasing worthy of mention, all edges unsplit with no repairs.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(++): a very fine visual copy that is very clean with equally fine shine and very solidly pressed. A copy appearing hardly played on all the evidence with any surface trace marks ultra fine and faint as seen critically under bright angled light. Just super-fine wispy traces, finer than hairlines seen with scrutiny if light catches them right, totally sure the result of a dry-cloth ‘clean’ and totally superficial of course. When viewed in normal room light, this record looks practically as made and nigh-on blemish-free. We all know the states these vintage beat mono albums are found in, well this one of on the other side of the vinyl spectrum and looks fantastic. Visually a super record that should please most collectors again.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This quality album plays even above it’s high visual grading with barely anything to fault. Offering strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds barely registered and this is an exceptional clean pressing with no tracking issues*. Few copies will match, let alone outperform this almost ultimate first pressing significantly I feel sure. G and R being the very first and second stampers in the pressing runs, these are rarely seen. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been very well stored and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record, indeed both cover and record could prove substantial upgrades for collectors. It will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2.2 grams.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
