Label Conditions: Both in stunning, practically as made conditions. Very clean, fresh and attractive with very intense and deep colour on side one’s Globe format. Any spindle traces are less than minuscule.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Brief Info: The second of two albums by this progressive rock band – both are scarce, elusive and seldom seen. This one regarded by most as the best of the two. Sales for them were quite poor, the slightly novelty front cover artwork probably did not help. The six-piece band, now with a some new members including Leary Hasson with some great keyboard work, have a Yes and Caravan like sound. Overall the music is a little mixed but quality shines through and this is a somewhat ‘lost’ prog gem. Male and female vocals are now shared by Odell and Joseph. This copy appears hardly played and offers lovely clean sound, never to be dismissed lightly on this label. It also includes the even more elusive graphic/lyric insert sheet. So another difficult prog-rock album for the serious collector, this indeed being my first ever copy.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(–): a single unlaminated format and this being somewhat prone to wear. Printed and made in England by Shorewood and includes the prized lyric insert sheet.

Cover Front: Dark unprotected covers will always be prone to wear, and given that fact, this one is still in fine condition. Most of any rim impression or rubbing is light, but a fine arc rub is seen near the bottom edge. Any surviving examples of this cover with none will be immensely rare. This apart, little other rubbing on an unforgiving dark surface, also the lack of creasing good news. A little on the corner tips being critical. No sticker marks or tears and the slightly comical artwork retains superb colour and freshness.

Cover Back: The back largely the same with no real rim rubbing, just gentle impression. The corner tips on the back do have more tip creasing and rubbing but not a great deal else to fault.

Top Edge: Quite straight with any rubbing to the black surface patchy and light.

Bottom Edge: Mostly only light to near moderate (in a couple of smallish places) rubbing. Black storage edges seldom escape some wear.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, mostly quite sharp with little wear. Any thickening or burring modestly light as seen viewed end-on. Record enters on this edge that is guaranteed untrimmed or enhanced in any way.

Spine and Text: Solid, mostly straight with some patchy compression. All text is perfect and unworn, that always nice to see.

Corners: Moderate tip rubbing and a little tip creasing mostly on the back. Generally fine shape is retained.

Cover Summary: A strong all-round example of this very fragile 1970’s cover, one that could prove very difficult to find much better. This still attractive item should please many collectors and most grading indeed could be deemed a little harsh.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT(++): a plain solid unlined white inner that has little to fault at all. Minimal creasing or ageing and all edges unsplit with no repairs. Like the record, I feel this has been hardly outside the main cover.

The Graphic/Lyric Insert Sheet: EXCELLENT(++): and guaranteed original. Clean, fresh and attractive with very sharp, untorn edges. Just a merest hint of record rim impression and any creasing fine, very few and light. Like many insert sheets or posters, these are so often torn, badly creased – or missing altogether.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(++): a superb visual copy that is very clean with very fine shine and solidly pressed. A copy hardly even played on all the evidence with any surface trace ultra fine and whispy as seen critically under bright angled light. I doubt if this record has seen light-of-day for decades and probably only played once or twice at most. Visually a lovely Transatlantic record that should please most-all collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This quality prog-rock album (do not be deceived by the novelty front cover artwork) plays up to, and most-all even above it’s high visual grading with barely anything to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and this is an exceptional clean pressing, never to be taken for granted on this label. Few copies will match, let alone outperform this very first pressing I feel sure. Nothing of any note spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record, I have owned the CD for some years, but never had a vinyl copy of this title. Although the cover has a little wear and does gently remind of it’s considerable age, the record is magnificent and will prove immensely difficult to find better. This merits strong recommendation.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
