COIL 'ANS' 3CD + DVD Box Set + Set of 4 Prints
Extremely rare mail order only edition that came with a set of the illustrations of the four 'played' designs made by the band during the session, screen printed on handmade paper.
The CDs feature 3 hours of material (7 untitled audio tracks) recorded using the ANS Synthesizer, a one-of-a-kind photoelectronic instrument at Moscow State University. Each disc is housed in it's own sleeve with artwork showing the ANS Synthesizer. The DVD features about an hour of 'activational' video animation works (4 untitled tracks) by Peter Christopherson which 'convert the sounds of the ANS back into light from whence it came'.
Also contains an insert detailing the history and workings of the ANS, description of it's usage, and information on the release. "The ANS was first conceived in the 1930's by Soviet Army colonel Evgeny Murzin....It's purpose is to convert graphic designs made by the composer, directly into sound. Murzin was a big fan of the music of Russian composer Alexander Nikolaevich Scriabin, so he named his new invention after him." "The various sound pieces in this boxset are the work of Jhonn Balance solo, Jhonn Balance and Ossian Brown, Peter Christopherson solo, Thighpaulsandra solo, Ivan Pavlov (Coh) solo, and Jhonn Balance and Ivan Pavlov together.
Released 2004 on Threshold House (no catalogue number). The box is in near mint condition. The discs, inner sleeves, insert and prints are in mint condition.
