Description
Per Wikipedia, Cold Blood is a long-standing R&B horn funk band founded by Larry Field in 1968, and was originally based in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. The band has also performed and recorded under the name Lydia Pense and Cold Blood, due to the popularity of their lead singer, Lydia Pense . The band first came to prominence in 1969 when rock impresario Bill Graham signed them after an audition, and they played the Fillmore West in San Francisco. Pense has been compared to Janis Joplin, and it was Joplin who recommended the audition to Graham. The term "East Bay Grease" has been used to describe the San Francisco Bay Area's brass horn heavy funk-rock sound of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s; Cold Blood (formed in 1968) was one of the pioneer bands of this sound. Others were Chicago (formed in 1967) and Tower Of Power (formed in 1968). The albums in this bundle include the group's debut album Cold Blood, and their follow-up album Sisyphus. Cold Blood is the first studio LP album, originally released in 1969. It was produced for San Francisco Records and distributed by Atlantic Records. The album in this bundle is a first pressing by Columbia Record's Terre Haute pressing facility. It consists of 7 tracks with a run time of 34+ minutes. The cover is in VG+ condition with no significant wear along the edges and corners and there are no split seams, tears or markings on the cover. There is a hint of disc ring wear along the top of the front cover. The back cover is clean and contains a photo of the group, along with track listings (see photos). The paper inner sleeve is original and intact and is a promotional sleeve by Atlantic Records. The recording has been cleaned and tested using Audacity. All tracks are free from skips and there is very little background noise. The sound is strong and clear. The record surfaces show only mild signs of wear and the surfaces are glossy with no scratches or scuffs. By Goldmine standards this recording would be rated as VG+. second record in this bundle is Sisyphus, that was released on the San Francisco record label in 1970. The record in this bundle is also a first pressing by Presswell. It consists of 6 tracks with a run time of 34+ minutes. The cover is also in VG+ condition with only mild wear along the corners and very mild ring wear on the upper front and back covers. The interior covers of this gatefold album are in VG+ condition and contain photos of the group along with track listings. The paper inner sleeve is also original and intact. The sleeve is generic with no photos or graphics. The recording has also been cleaned and tested and all tracks are free of "skips". There is very mild background noise that consists of an occasional "click" that does not interfere with the music. The sound is clean and strong. The disc surfaces show no significant abnormalities, such as scratches or scuffs, and all labels are clean and intact. By Goldmine standards, this recording would rate VG/VG+.
