Description
Rare original 1959 first pressing copy of Coleman Hawkins' Hawk Eyes LP on Prestige 7156. Features Charlie Shavers on trumpet and Tiny Grimes on wonderful guitar. Bergenfield labels with Rudy Van Gelder's stamp in the runoffs. The disc has some scuffs, light marks, and a few little nicks but it plays remarkably well. There are some places with a few light ticks and some crackle, but most of the time it plays quite beautifully. The worst is in the first section of C'mon In, but even that is not terrible. A bit of ticking, but really it passes quickly and is not especially loud. There are a couple of moments of crackle, as I say, but never is it bad. Mostly it plays quite clearly and highly enjoyably. The cover has some heavy wear on the corners, and the top edge is fraying in places, with a 1" split. Slight crease along the upper right edge, and some light staining on the back. The lower seam is unworn, and the spine is perfectly intact and readable. Still shiny and striking. This is a really nice copy overall.
