Conductor George Szell, Pablo Casals, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra
This recording the first issue in the heavy blue card cover, with textured vinyl finish. Issued UK in May 1958. This record from one of the greatest Cellists of all time was never issued by HMV as Stereo, as were many of his finest recordings. So as far as I know, if you want Pablo Casals playing this Great Cello Concerto, the only way to get it on vinyl is through COLH 30, or as a reissue HLM series HMV,(or US Angel later pressing.) Hence its now regular command of premium prices, especially for the 1st edition.
NOTE this is a re mastering of the 1937 Prague recording originally released on 78 RPM records DB 3288-92 ON full test play of this NM record, I was truly amazed at the 1957 re mastering to 33rpm and the clean sounding reproduction that had been achieved. As a cello player myself, the enjoyment I had from listening to this, was saddened by the knowledge of knowing I was going to sell it.......... but buffered by the knowledge I had a backup US angel recording for my own listening pleasure!!!
Wax No.s
side 1 2XLA 267
side 2 2XLA 268
Having said how well I have tried to preserve it for you, the disc is in overall NM, There are no visible scratches only a few light hairline paper scuffs, (Non Sounding), HOWEVER, there are parts particularly in quiet spots, where background ticks and pops are occuring. This is most prevalent in the opening sections on both sides, mostly before the soloist starts.
Complete test play throughout rest of record show pops and clicks, as usual associated with vinyl recordings, but they would be more described as odd pops and clicks without repetitive patterns associated with scratch style damage.
There is very little sign of spindle wear .
Overall visually and audibly I now rate this LP as Near Mint.
Cover condition (See Photo's) Very Good. The dark blue very heavy card cover has no seam splits, but has a few nicks and rubs through to the card plain color (see photo's)
Very straight, This is in remarkably good condition for being over 50 years old and has no bends or compacted corners, no seam splits however, SOME minor edge and corner wear from shelving. I would think it could be rated as VG+ .
Inner Dust Jacket original plastic lined paper sleeve, in very good condition. Now the record is cleaned, I have included an archive quality dust jacket of more modern times to help preserve the current condition. Audiophile quality innersleeve is antistat non scratching sleeve by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MFSL)
INCLUDES 24 PAGE A5 SIZE BOOKLET GIVING DETAILS OF THIS CONCERTO, CASALS, NOTES ON THIS RECORDING INTERPRETATION BY PAUL TORTELIER AND SOME INFO ON DVORAK. tHE BOOKLET IS UNMARKED

I CAN ONLY INSURE BASED ON THE CUSTOMS DECLARATION STATED VALUE, PLEASE BE AWARE SHOULD YOU BE LIABLE FOR ANY CUSTOMS ON A SECOND HAND LP IN YOUR COUNTRY, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT PAYMENT (UK, Sth Korea and Germany at least probably more, has this problem I believe)
In other words, buyers asking me to understate the customs declaration on this item need not bid, as I flatly refuse under international law to do so. (Last Buyer who did that gave neg feedback (it was retracted obviously) as they thought it was my fault they had taxes to pay(?????)
RULES FOR BIDDING
DOES ANYBODY READ THIS?? I THINK NOT BASED ON RECENT BIDDING ACTIVITY ON MY ITEMS!! PLEASE READ...
If you have hidden feedback, or
less than 98% positive, or
less than 50 recent visible positives, (that's NEW EBAY registrations with little activity yet, that have proven your good buying habits) THEN -
I would appreciate email contact first to establish your credentials. Credentials mean that I need to know you will be paying with VERIFIED PAYPAL account, and I of course will only be mailing to that verified address. DON'T EXPECT TO GET MY PERMISSION IN THE LAST 2 HOURS OF BIDDING, DO IT BEFOREHAND. (Buyers who have had trouble free transactions with me already qualify of course, regardless of the feedback status)
Winning bids unpaid after 7 days will be reported as non paying bidder and item opened to second chance offer.
HAPPY BIDDING, QUESTIONS WELCOME
This listing in Australian dollars because I don't live in US or UK, and if you don't, WHAT A WASTE OF DOUBLE CONVERSIONS THAT WOULD BE!!! Also as the exchange rate is more like R.S. not U.S against our vibrant economy in sunny Australia
The keen starting price offers a great opportunity to own this great recording at a reasonable starting price.
