Originally released in two volumes in 1970 and 1973, Asalto Navideno remains one of salsa's defining masterpieces. The unstoppable duo of Hector Lavoe and Willie Colon joined forces with cuatro legend Yomo Toro and percussionists Milton Cardona and Jose Mangual to reimagine Puerto Rican Christmas music through a fiery salsa lens. Merging musica jibara with Cuban guaguanco, jazz, samba and merengue, the album is full of the festive chaos of the traditional parranda, a roving street party filled with song and even more rum. From the jubilant 'Canto A Borinquen' to the iconic 'La Murga', this record embodies the joyous spirit of Puerto Rican identity and is the island's ultimate Christmas soundtrack.
