*********************************************************DESCRIPTION:
We have on offer an original amazingly rare Columbia 12 Inch Blue & Gold Recording of the short lived Hungarian & iconic/genius violinist, Johanna Martzy being accompanied by Jean Antonietti on piano. The superb Scubert playing by this violinist has to be heard to be believed ...... the string tone on this near mint 1950's Mono recording is just simply to die for. Her name only brings an aura of mystique & genius/excellence to any musical forefront & her premature death at the young age of 54, only adds to her cult-like status which has just grown out of all proportion given the effluxion of time & availabilty of her original mono recordings.
Because Johanna Martzy's recording career only lasted 4 years, her name has become a legend amongst the discerning music experts; her recordings are truly rare collector's items. Her highly conscious, careful selection of repertoire was completely consistent with the way she went about her music. The clear, brilliant tone, without any frills, of her Carlo Bergonzi violin lends her playing a definite profile that is most instantly recognisable.
Martzy regularly appeared with the best orchestras & conductors, such as george Solti, Eugene Normandy, Otto Klemperer, Igor Markevitch, Paul Kletzky & Ernest Ansermet. In addition she also gained an incredible reputation as a chamber musician, particularly at the time of her her cooperation with the amazing Dutch pianst, Jean Antonietti, who accompanies Martzy on this fabulous recording.
Her untimely death in 1979, hardly noticed by the general public, thus signified a truly tragic loss for the musical world.
