Spain's Vampi Soul are killing it on the reissue front at the minute, along with a recent resurfacing of a very special album by Fruko, this repackaged edition of Canabrava by Combo Los Yogas - also originally out on Discos Fuentes - has put a big smile on our face in tying this week to a close. Also residing within the enlarged 'salsa' territory, Canabrava is a 1968 masterpiece, and the only LP from the outfit, who eventually would branch out into their own solo careers and other projects. But, we love albums like that. A singular gem that leaves music fans yearning for more of what they can't have. This is an album that's bound to put a smile on your face, like much of South American music, and it has the very rare quality of sounding truly timeless. The fact that it was made so long ago is only an added perk to please the diggers. Excellent.
