Description

Commercial Album is the seventh studio album released by American experimental rock band the Residents in October 1980 by Ralph Records. The album is commonly considered a follow-up to their 1978 album Duck Stab/Buster & Glen, in that it retains the former album's pop-oriented song structures. It contains 40 songs, each lasting exactly one minute - a deliberate allusion and satire of Top 40 mainstream radio. The album's liner notes state that, to form a complete pop song, tracks from the album should be played three times in a row.

The album features a number of guest musicians, notably drummer Chris Cutler and guitarist Fred Frith of the recently disbanded Henry Cow. Other guests are credited under pseudonyms, such as Andy Partridge of XTC (as "Sandy Sandwich") and Lene Lovich (as "Mud's Sis"); Brian Eno and David Byrne appear on the album uncredited.

Of course it swept the 1981 Grammy Awards. JUST KIDDING!!! 😊

THIS COPY is a 1st pressing on the Ralph Records label. It includes the misprint that occurred on the 1st pressings (see Notes, below).

The vinyl, per a test listen, is in Very Good Plus [VG+] condition.

The original cover is also in Very Good Plus [VG+] condition, or better.

The original inner sleeve, which is the Ralph records "Buy or Die" inner sleeve, is in Very Good Plus [VG+] condition,

First pressing of 15,000 copies:

- Purple Ralph logo on bottom right corner of the rear sleeve.
- No credits for manufacturing and copyright at the bottom of the rear cover (under the tracklisting).
- Incorrect track order printed on the rear sleeve for tracks 8 to 14. However, this track order is correct as printed on A-side label and is the one listed above.
- Comes with official 'Buy or Die' inner sleeve.
- Sequentially listed tracks on sleeve and on labels regardless of sides: 1 to 40.
