Lord Melody (1926 – 26 September 1988) was a popular calypsonian, best known for singles such as the self-deprecating "Boo Boo Man", "Creature From The Black Lagoon" "Shame & Scandal", "Jonah and the Bake", "Juanita" and "Rastaman Be Careful". Melody's career spanned some forty years, from the early development of popular calypso to his embrace of a reggae-influenced sound in the late 1970s.Melody was born Fitzroy Alexander at San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago, raised at an orphanage in Port of Spain, and met Alwyn Roberts (soon to become better known as Lord Kitchener) after moving to Arima while still in his teens.Roberts took him under his wing and they returned to Port of Spain, where Lord Kitchener became the leading calypso star, with Melody one of his main challengers. His popularity increased locally when Lord Kitchener emigrated to England in 1947. Melody began singing in the calypso tents in the mid 1940s and was one of the leaders of the Young Brigade tent during the 1950s and early 1960s. He also regularly toured the Caribbean. His early successes included "Berlin on a Donkey", mocking Adolf Hitler, and "Boo Boo Man". In 1954 he won Trinidad's Calypso King title with "Second Spring", and he was signed to the American Emory Cook's record label, Cook Records, in 1956.

RECORD GRADING TERMS:Mint. Absolutely perfect in every way. Certainly never been played, possibly even still sealed. Near Mint. A nearly perfect record. Basically, an LP in near mint condition looks as if you just got it home from a new record store and removed the shrink wrap. Excellent. An Excellent (or Very Good Plus / VG+) record will show some signs that it was played by a previous owner who took good care of it. Record surfaces may show some signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect listening. The label may have some ring wear or discoloration. Picture sleeves will have some slight wear, lightly turned up corners, or a slight seam split. An LP cover may have slight signs of wear also and may have a "cut-out" hole. If not for a couple things wrong with it, this would be Near Mint. Very Good (VG) Many defects found in an Excellent (VG+) record will be more pronounced in a VG disc. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages but will not overpower the music. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as with light scratches that will affect the sound. Picture sleeves or LP covers, or labels may be marred by writing, tape or stickers (or their residue). Sleeve can have one-inch spine split. Good. Can be put onto a turntable and will play through without skipping. But it will have significant surface noise and scratches and visible groove wear. A cover or sleeve will have seam splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine. Tape, writing, ring wear or other defects will start to overwhelm the object.
