COOL VINTAGE 45-RPM 7" DOULE-WIDE CARRYING CASE OR DJ STORAGE BOX ~ SOLID & CLEAN
This week on Ebay we are offering up this old, vintage, retro, very solid and sturdy, large, wooden, 'Double-Wide' 45-RPM, 7" record storage box or carrying case.
This likely dates back to the late 50s or early 60s and is built like a tank. It was full of late 50s EPs and 45s when I purchased it many years ago.
I've had this cool retro carrying case for over 30 years and have used it many times to bring my rare and precious 45s to Record Shows in the NYC area over the years.
It is built of solid wood and covered with tan faux leather or vintage vinyl. It has a mild 'animal' or spotted look to the pattern of the covering.
The size is roughly 16 1/2 " long, 8 1/2" tall, and 7" deep. I added a ruler to some of my pictures to give you an idea of size. It holds over 100 45's or 7" EP's.
I took some pictures with 45's and EPs inside to show you the general idea. The records are NOT part of the auction, and are just for display purposes.
It has 2 side-by-side compartments, padded with soft 'vinyl' lining and the compartments have smooth wooden floors. The surface of the case is covered with soft, fake leather, tan vinyl.
The construction is very durable. The carrying handle is made of reinforced leather and is very sturdy and strong. The hinges are all solid brass and are strong and solid.
The front has a brass lock which closes tightly and opens easily, but I don't have a key. It's 'unlocked' but snaps shut tightly and pops open when you push the button.
The faux leather covering is stitched together at the seams, a sign of quality, and is clean, strong and solid. There are one or two very small 'marks' from years of use, but it still looks great.
The 2 padded wooden compartments are clean, dust-free and solid. The back and the bottom has small rounded brass tacks added, keeping the box and hinges from scratching whatever surface it sits on.
The inside of the top cover is lined with a sheet of wooden laminate or veneer that has faded over the years, giving it a 'white' appearance in places. This is not 'dust', mildew or flaking, it's just worn out and smoothed out over the years. If I were keeping this, I would probably stain it or use a furniture marker to bring it back to full glory.
The only 'flaw' to this great carrying case is that the prior owner wrote "45s Records" on the lid on one end and "Tapes and Records" in small letters on the bottom with permanent marker. That's how I purchased it decades ago. I tried removing the writing years ago, making it less obvious, but it's still faintly noticeable. No big deal; you can see the 'writing' in my pictures.
This is a very nice, solid, durable 45 carrying case that would be a great place to store your singles or would make a great carrying case for a travelling DJ or record spinner. As I said, I used it for many years displaying 45s at record shows, back in the day.
It holds over 100 45's or 7" EP's.
My record show days are long over and it's time to pass this great carrying case on to it's next owner. It served me well for decades, but needs a new home.
As I said, it's built like a tank, solid wood, very sturdy, and will definitely protect your 45's, EP's and records from damage. It displays great as well, and would look great in your music room.
I tried to show pictures of this great carrying case from every angle, so you can see how well it's built and how clean and useable it still is. They don't make them like this anymore. A real gem.
