DESCRIPTION:  This band's career spans over five albums released between 1974 and 1984, this being their second album, but the band had its roots in Daniel Schell’s Classroom, a group that was formed in 1966. During the early 70s, Classroom played concerts in Brussels supporting Magma, Zao, Placebo, and Univers Zero. After several shifts in personnel Schell decided on the name change to Cos to better fit their changing musical influences. Often referred to as the Belgian answer to Zao (no surprise there), they offer a mixture of prog rock, jazz, and Canterbury styles, drawing their influences mainly from Magma, King Crimson, Hatfield And The North, and, of course, Zao. They are led by flautist/guitarist Daniel Schell and feature the unique vocals of his wife, Pascale Son, who uses nonsense syllables to suggest a semblance of language; she also plays the oboe. New to the line-up for Viva Boma are drummer Guy Lonneux and keyboardist Marc Hollander along with Alain Goutier on bass. Prior to the release of this album the band had been on tours with Magma, Zao, Univers Zero, and Placebo, which led to Placebo keyboardist Marc Moulin producing this album. Issued in 1976, Viva Boma, considered by many to be their absolute masterpiece, is a chef d'oeuvre of Canterbury-style music. Each of their following albums has its own sound: Babel, emphasizes Pascale's vocals, but also features funk/disco beats; Swiss Chalet has a particular African feel, but develops a New Wave-ish sound as well; as for Pasiones, it contains a strange mixture of styles (Adrian Belew-era King Crimson, Canterbury, operatic, and Latin American). The band folded in the mid-80's after releasing the Hotel Atlantic EP. However, their strongest work can be found on their first two albums, Postaeolian Train Robbery (1974) and 1976’s Viva Boma. Both contain a mixture of jazzy and surrealistic sounds with some off-beat, humorous twists. If you like the sound of Zao or Magma with an eccentric edge (or, in a different but similar slant, to the Dutch group Supersister), then these two albums are highly recommended.

THIS ITEM IS NEW AND UNPLAYED. Used items will include condition details for the cover, disc, inserts, etc.

NOTE TO POTENTIAL BUYERS:  If the jacket or disc (unless sealed) is punched, marked, or cut in any manner, denoting a promotional/review copy, I will state that as part of the item description. Also if an issue is a "music club" edition, that will be noted in the item description. (The below information was last updated 10/08/22)

If you have any questions or if you have additional information, especially corrections, to the description, please e-mail me. I particularly enjoy when an artist, band member, or someone who has personal background knowledge of a particular album/artist and offers their insight/information of that recording, which I will include with the description for future listings of that release. As a collector of many years, part of the hobby side for me is to learn about the background of the artists and music that I collect. Hopefully, sharing some of this information in my descriptions will help educate and enhance your listening experience.

All LPs are removed from their jackets and placed outside of the jacket for shipping. If an album comes sealed (and will be noted as such in the above description), it will be shipped whole unless you request that I open it up to place the disc outside of the jacket for shipping. Both jacket and disc are placed inside of an outer plastic sleeve before packing for shipping. I use professional corrugated record mailers with inside packing.
