Description

RCA Victor LPM 1112 Collectors Issue of Basie, a series of previously unreleased recordings from 1947-1950 by William "Count" Basie, released in 1955.  Album cover is a drawing from the same year by Andy Warhol based on the photograph of Basie on the back of the cover.  According to Andy Warhol Record Covers, 1949-1987, Catalogue Raisonne, the drawing represents Warhol's first celebrity portrait and one of the only ones from the 1950s.  Basie's skin color is rendered in a gray wash that contrasts with the pink background.
