GRADING 78's: This is my grading system which I use to match up with EBay's grading scale. I grade my 78's both visually and by audio quality. I will use plus (+) or minus (-) for a disc that falls between grades. I inspect closely. Be assured that if there are any defects such as cracks, surface lams, needle drops, stripped grooves, etc., I will list them in the description
Mint (M)= Store stock, new, un played, in original sleeve. Almost impossible to find, super rare.
Near Mint (NM)= A very rare 78. Close to mint, but has been played. No visible signs of wear or damage. May have a small scuff or very small, faint scratch. Labels will look like new. Will basically look like a new record that has been very well cared for and played maybe a couple times. Sound quality will be superb.
Excellent (EX)= A highly collectible 78. Very shiny, near new looking. Will have some light scuffs and/or scratches. No visible signs of wear. Surface noise will be light and may have light ticks/pops here and there.
Very Good+ (VG+)= A collectible, above average condition 78. Shiny but may have some dull areas. There will be more than a few light scuffs and/or scratches per side but no deep scratches. There may be some light groove wear. Surface noise will be light to moderate, there will be ticks/pops. No distortion and still comfortable to listen too.
Very Good (VG)= An average condition 78. Will be more of a dull finish but still have some shine under a light. Will have many light scratches or scuffs per side. If there are any deep scratches I will mention them in the description. Surface noise will be moderate to heavy with ticks/pops. May have moments of distortion, if so I will mention in description. Sound quality is starting to become uncomfortable but does not overpower the music.
Good+ (G+)= A less than average condition 78. Basically the same as VG except that it is completely dull with no shine whatsoever under a light. Grooves will pretty much be grey with more than moderate to heavy surface noise. If there is distortion I will list in the description.
Good (G)= Poor condition 78. Seriously worn and scratched. Label may or may not be legible. Playback is muffled, plagued by noise and definitely uncomfortable to listen too. Mainly used as a filler for a rare disc.
Cleaning 78's= I clean each and every disc using a mild soap and water. I let them air dry so that you do not have any kind of lint on them. I use new sleeves, but occasionally you may have traces of sleeve material, from the stamping of the center hole, to get on the record. Other than a possible light dusting off, the 78 will be ready to play and put in your collection.
Shipping 78's= I place the disc in a new sleeve. I "sandwich" the record between no less than 6 pieces of cardboard which are cut to 10 3/4" x 10 3/4". I place this "sandwich" in a new 13" x 13" x 4" 200 lb. rated box. The "sandwich" is surrounded on all sides by craft paper. I prefer to use paper instead of shipping peanuts because the paper will more easily compress if the box is subject to careless handling. I charge a $3.00 handling fee to cover my costs of shipping supplies.
