COVEN Witchcraft 1969 og 1st lp Mercury SR 61239 nude g/f RARE psych metal vinyl Shipping Info Description RARE vintage lp: COVEN - WITCHCRAFT DESTROYS MINDS AND REAPS SOULS - the original rare release omn Mercury Records, stereo, SR 61239, gatefold jacket with image of nude woman on an altar inside, and with tri-fold/second gatefold design and lyrics; 10 tracks, released in 1969; record label has misspelled track "Pack with Lucifer" instead of the jacket title "Pact with Lucifer".
A very scarce and important album in the history of heavy metal, one which has some controversy around it, since it claims to be the first album to use the phrase "Hail Satan" and the first to use Satanism/devil worship imagery so blatantly - the gatefold image features an upside-down cross, and people making the two-fingered sign of the devil (a sign that has been a part of heavy metal ever since, and is usually attributed to Ronnie James Dio and his grandmother). Also strange for having a singer named Oz Ozbourne, and a first track called "Black Sabbath" - this has caused some controvery about whether Coven influenced the band Black Sabbath. The final 13-minute track is chanting and Satanic prayers, called "Satanic Mass".
Condition: VG+/EX+ (vinyl is still glossy, wioth some minor scuffing and a long but light scratch across one side which I can't feel with a thumbnail and which only causes some scattered minimal background; labels are clean; jacket is very clean with some light corner rubbing, small edge scar to back cover, clean gatefold, clean spine and edges, no splitting or wrinkling).
