After failing to secure a recording contract with Buddah Records, the Kasenetz-Katz production team-sponsored band Crazy Elephant found a home with Major Minor and released a self-titled album. This Major Minor release is the very first UK issue of the album. The album contains mainly original compositions by band members and Kasenetz and Katz together with a superb psychedelic cover of Otis Redding's "Respect" and the very mystical heavy version of the Leonard Bernstein song "Somewhere." The entire album is very psychedelic with swirling organ, fuzz guitars, and even horns, in the style of a less heavy Vanilla Fudge or Rare Earth. Crazy Elephant did manage to produce a hit single in 1969 with the song "Gimme, Gimme Good Lovin'" that featured vocals by Robert Spencer, former lead vocalist from the '50s band the Cadillacs. This fantastic album is now gaining momentum as the classic crossover heavy psych album it is. It is now very rare indeed and hardly ever turns up these days.

Vinyl: EX+. A wonderful and extremely heavy Major Minor vinyl with an as new sheen. Please note that this is the far rarer MONO version. The stereo version, although very rare in its own right, was sold more often, after all it was issued in 1969 when stereo was much more prevalent and mono was hardly sold at all. This album has only been played very lightly. There are only a couple of spindle traces. Under a strong light I could only spot one wispy hairline and a few paper retraction traces which are invisible in normal lighting conditions. The audio is out of this world and very powerful, as played on my Linn Sondek/Rotel/B&W audio set up. Needless to say there NO skips, NO jumps, NO clicks etc.

Sleeve: VG++.  A single front laminated sleeve and the correct MONO one, 'Made and printed in England by West Brothers . Printers . Limited' , with a few creases around the corners as can be seen in the picture. There are, however, no splits or tears and the sleeve is fully intact with a fully legible spine. Light ring wear on the reverse. The colours are still very rich. The album is a total gem though and absolutely ultra rare. Only the second I have come across in 30 years! NO writing, NO marks.
