Disraeli Gears is the second album by British blues-rock group Cream. It was released in November 1967 and went on to reach #5 on the UK album chart. Often seen offered for sale with the more common stereo pressing but the earliest and original monos do not come up for sale that often and produce the best audio available in any format in my opinion! It was also their American breakthrough, becoming a massive seller there in 1968, reaching #4 on American charts. The album features the two singles "Strange Brew" and "Sunshine of Your Love". By this time, the group was veering quite heavily away from their blues roots to indulge in more psychedelic sounds!!!!!.
The title of the album, Disraeli Gears, was actually a bit of an inside joke. Eric Clapton had been thinking of getting a racing bicycle, and was discussing it with Ginger Baker, when Mick Turner, one of the roadies, commented on the performance of "those Disraeli Gears" meaning to say "derailleur gears". The band thought this was hilarious—Benjamin Disraeli was a prominent 19th Century British politician—and decided that it should be the title of their next album. Had it not been for Mick, the album would simply have been entitled Cream!!!!!!!.
Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker all contributed songs with the help of lyricist Pete Brown and producer Felix Pappalardi. The track "Blue Condition" was unusual in that Baker, although by any account not a singer, took the lead vocal. The album was recorded in New York by their American label, the Atco division of Atlantic Records during the band's stay in the United States!!!!!.
The psychedelic cover art was created by Australian artist Martin Sharp, who lived in the same building as Clapton at the time of the Chelsea artists colony The Pheasantry. At their first meeting in a London club, Clapton mentioned that he had some music that needed lyrics, so Sharp wrote out a poem he had composed on a napkin and gave it to Clapton, who recorded it as "Tales of Brave Ulysses"!!!!!!.
When interviewed on the episode of the VH1 show, Classic Albums, which featured Disraeli Gears, Bruce stated that when writing the song "Take it Back", he had been inspired by the contemporary media images of American students burning their draft cards and wrote the song in that spirit of rejecting militarism!!!!
In 2004, the album was released as a 2-disc Deluxe edition including the complete album in both mono and stereo, demos, alternate takes and tracks taken from the band's live sessions on BBC radio!!!!!!!

The Vinyl
On visual inspection this vinyl looks absolutely superbe! The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable! This is the original heavier thicker type of vinyl with deeper grooves only found on these original earliest pressings!!! They are also more robust than later pressings which were more flimsier!!!! In strong light only could possibly any very light whispy surface marks be seen Sleeve removal only in my opinion, at least no audio sounding marks or scratches that I heard! In fact on side 2 only, I could see just one very light whyspy suface scuff which was probably cause by dirt or grit in the record sleeve which had no adverse effect on this awesome and absolutely near perfect audio throughout on my systems!!!
The Audio Quality
I CAN'T SEE ANY NEEDLE OR AUDIO SOUNDING MARKS OR SCRATCHES Please note! Certainly (no) marks that are audio sounding that I heard that would produce any loud clicks or pops during the audio at all! I have played this through track for track as usual on a top system at very loud volume using a dedicated mono cartridge!! and the audio is rated at the top graded as good as it gets on any format in my opinion ! This is cristal clear and vibrant through out. This plays with (no) signs of any distortion or that this has been overplayed WHAT SO EVER!!!! In fact this has been stored in a case laying dormant for over 25 years and only initialy ever played a handful of times only! mega mega rare like this in mono! I would class myself as highly critacle! Please look at my completed listings of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that i normally get it right!!!! Audio is graded at the top!!! You will find the audio quality on this vinyl hard to surpass!!!!!
Please note! I always make this disclaimer! Please allow for the odd static crackle (not) consistant throughout the audio! Please remember that this is a genuine 35 year old vinyl (not a reissue) that would have originally been played on a 35 year old system!!!!
Please note! This has been stored in a case for at least 25 years! Any static crackle that might be heard during some quiet parts could be minimised by constant cleaning before each play in my experiance!, Build up of dust and dirt that has accumilated over the years from the vinyl being stored! laying dormant causes most of this problem so please allow for some light static crackle as previously mentioned!!!!! I would class myself as highly critical ! Please look at my completed listings of records that I have sold of this calaber and you will see that I normally get it right!!!!

The Labels
This features the original ((MONO))blue REACTION labels in superbe condition (no) nasty writing Please note! I can just barely see a very minimal amount of spider marks which indicates this has barely ever been played and certainly not been overplayed at all (very rare for a pressing of this age) ''made in England'' text is featured (this is a UK pressing) little if (no) spindleware the hole is perfectly round!!! GENUINE 42 YEAR OLD PRESSING!!!
The cover.
The condition of this E.DAY & CO PRINTED cover is AWESOME !!! Lovely and super glossy laminate , Just barely any real creases to talk of.(so rare to find) The writing on the spine can clearly be seen! (features the mono catalogue number at the rear (see photos)! absolutely superbe example throughout!!!There is a very inobtrusive sticker removal scuff at the rear only (barely noticable unless you look for it) This is the only thing that detracts from this being near pristine!!! Try to find better after 39 years!!!must be at least excellent to excellent plus!!!
