Posting to Russia: Yes, I do post to Russia. But delivery can take up to 4 to 6 weeks from the UK. So please be patient. I will submit a tracking number to the winning bidder, and when the packet arrives there it can be followed online using the Russian post website.

Label Conditions: Both very clean, fresh and attractive with only a couple or three light, fine and faint spindle marks and no wear around the hole area. This classic debut album appears hardly played and sounds fantastic. Another from a collection purchased from new by one owner.

Brief Info: The brilliant 1968 debut album by CCR – it bought a new sound to the music market and the high-quality distinctive vocalist John Fogarty. It sold reasonably well in the United States peaking at No 52, but less so here when it got a release in 1969. But success arrived quickly with subsequent albums proving very popular. UK originals on the blue label are scarce, it was quite quickly repressed on the black Liberty format, and originals are difficult to find with few plays and nice cover. Powerful driving songs superbly sung by Fogerty, this now widely acclaimed as a classic and this magnificent record does it maximum justice. This the first copy I have had to offer for ages, and this a one-owner copy from new. Not one to be lost lightly.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(+): a single format with the front laminated, this covers all the folds and ends on the back spine edge. The main back panel is matt and smooth. Printed and made in England, includes the 1969 date-coded inner sleeve.

Lamination & Front: Quite a thin cover making it quite delicate often leading to major laminate issues. This one retains excellent shine, freshness and clarity with only light dulling seen around the rim area under light. There are a few mild and mostly small laminate creases, any marks are very few, gentle and faint, and such is the intensity of the artwork, they are only seen under light. The lack of lifting is a huge plus so hardly anything of note detracts from the stunning band picture and graphic. This unaged or faded, it looks fantastic as-seen. This elusive cover front will not prove easy to find much better with a thicker first issue record inside for best part of 50 years.

Cover Back: The vulnerable matt back has also fared very well with hardly any rubbing, grubbiness or creasing. A few hairlines on the thin spine edge that hardly show and a couple of tiny corner tip rubs. The lack of ring wear always a huge bonus on these format covers. No sticker issues or writing, a back that splendidly complements the impressive front.

Top Edge: Again thin, but still quite straight, the laminated fold smooth and unworn. The card panel end has a hint of light thickening being critical.

Bottom Edge: As above.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, mostly sharp with any thickening little and light as seen viewed end-on. Record enters on this edge that is guaranteed untrimmed or enhanced.

Spine and Text: Generally solid, gentle bowing only with any compression light, the ends are nipped in manufacture. All text is perfect and unworn under the solid and unpeeled laminate, this neatly centred also on a narrow depth as-seen in close-up. Two or three very fine hairline creases which are difficult to avoid totally on thinner card covers.

Corners: Any tip rubs very small and light, very fine to near excellent shape retained with no knocks.

Cover Summary: A very strong all-round example of this fragile 1960’s cover, one that will prove difficult to find much better. This beautiful item should please many collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: NEAR EXCELLENT: the Polydor-style inner sleeve has moderately darkened with age but has little other issues with any creasing very little and light, both window circles crisp and undamaged. The polylining still quite clear and intact, no edge splits or repairs. This is date-coded 049 (April 1969).

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(++): a very fine visual copy that is very clean with equally fine shine and solidly pressed. A copy with minimal plays on all the evidence with any surface traces few, very light and faint as seen critically under bright light. No penetrating stylus scratches, viewed in average room light, barely anything even registers. Visually a super record that should please many, if not most collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing equipment, all listed further down.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This elusive blue label first issue plays even above it’s high visual grading with barely anything to fault. Offering strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed, hardly anything heard at all and this is an exceptional clean pressing with no tracking issues*. Few available copies will outperform this very early pressing I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been generally well stored and carefully handled. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record. It will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2.2 grams. Records are a ‘contact’ format, and few will avoid the odd minor sound blemish.

SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
