Label Conditions: Both very clean, fresh and attractive, spindle marks are moderate on side one, but side has barely at all. The record looks and plays superbly well and includes a wonderful fresh cover.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of this Record: 136 grams. A very good above average weight for this one.

Rarity: Moderatly scarce, ones in very clean condition are far harder to find. A popular record with many seen heavily used and abused. This example on the other end of the spectrum. It has the very early laminated front cover, most seen are unlaminated with record having later mother and stamper codes.

Brief Artist & Album Info: Arguably their finest ever album, but all their early records are excellent. Always so distinctive for style and sound with one of the finest vocalists from this period, John Fogerty, he rarely sounded better than on this wonderful issue. The very first song, the lengthy ‘Ramble Tamble’ gets the album off to a spectacular start, CCR almost get heavy and this song has the most infectious riff that even Black Sabbath might have been proud of. A repetitive chord sequence that builds and then the lead guitar kicks in and then sheer nirvana. Also included are the magnificent ‘Up Around the Bend’ and ‘Who’ll Stop the Rain’, always sounding so much better on the original album rather than compilations and the penultimate tour de force, the long version of ‘I Heard it Through the Grapevine’ clocking in at over 11 minutes. What an absolute classic this album is and hearing a copy that plays so cleanly is the only way it deserves. This one has the laminated front cover which always makes it stand out more and richer depth, colour, and of course, shine.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(+): a single format with a laminated front. This covers all the closed edges and ends on the back via the spine edge. Printed and made in England by Upton and includes and includes the early Polydor cover that is date-coded 0770 (July 1970), this the UK date of issue.

Cover Front: A lovely front with the laminate shiny, still fresh and clear, any light dulling seen under angled light. Barely any lifting and only fine edge hairline type laminate creases. The artwork looks impressive and has that deeper vivid colour under laminate.

Cover Back: The back is unprotected, but still in very fine condition with any creasing light. Very little aged with hardly any rubbing at all, the lack of ringwear always great news as well.

Top Edge & Bottom Edges: A little gentle thickening of the rear panel on the top left, little else to fault with both laminated folds smooth and unworn.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, sharp with barely any wear at all and guaranteed untrimmed or enhanced in any way. The narrow strip on the front right edge where the laminate ends naturally short is little short of pristine, and importantly present. Record enters on this fragile edge.

Spine and Text: Solid, straight with barely any hint of compression at all, the ends deeply pinched in manufacture. All text is perfect and unworn as seen on my pictures, also well centred on a fairly narrow depth.

Corners: All corners are in very fine condition as well with any tip rubs tiny and light.

Cover Summary: A lovely and rarer laminated version cover, it should please many collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT(–): this is a little aged with the most often seen seam adhesive browning and the odd small stain on the back. This first Polydor pressing has the matching polylined Polydor inner sleeve that is date-coded 0770 (July 1970), that matches the date of issue in the UK. Two neat, crisp window circles and very clear lining. Moderate creasing on the bottom right corner but all edges intact. ‘316’ written on the top of the front.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT: an impressive visual copy that is very clean with lovely shine and very solidly pressed. A copy that appears only modestly played reitterated by impressive clean sound throughout. Any surface marks are mostly very fine and faint indeed as seen more critically under bright angled light. A small mark at the very start of side one has barely any sound at all, ultra faint, almost ear-to-speaker ticks lost in the loud intro. A 44-year-old popular record still in largely age-defying condition and this lovely record should please many collectors again.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or miniscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This high quality, early polydor-pressed Liberty record plays even above it’s very high visual grading with hardly anything to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Beautiful clean sound with little unwanted – the odd tiny few gentle ticks apart, those so hard to avoid totally on such vintage vinyl records. Clearly a record that avoided any significant mistreatment or abuse from the early days. The detail, dynamic range and sonic delivery of this first Polydor pressing is second-to-none, and the odd minor blemish apart, will take some beating. I also remind I play all my records on a ruthless revealing Linn LP12 Sondek, still one of the world’s most clinical turntables. Few available ones will be seen a great deal better and less still will match or outperform it for audio quality. Nothing of any real note spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful album, a true classic in it’s own right. It could prove very difficult to find better and can be strongly recommended.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
