Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of this Record: 150 grams. A very impressive weight for any standard issue record, this is way above average.

Brief Info: Debut album from this quality American band including the highly distinctive vocal sound of John Fogerty. Although modestly received at first with modest success, the band went from strength to strength with hit singles and very popular albums, most regarded as classics. Within their output, this debut is the most elusive, especially in top playing conditions on the original blue label. This copy looks little played but has ultra fine whispy surface marks seen under light, without doubt caused by over-zealous dry-cloth cleaning. The good news is nothing whatsoever sounds and a case where the original owner has tried a little too hard to keep his records pristine. In terms of sound quality, this is just that and this is a joy from beginning to end. A lovely example and more elusive on the famous blue label, later changed to black of course.

Cover Grade and Format: EX+ hardly does this attractive cover full justice. A single, fully laminated format that was printed and made in England.

Lamination: Front & Back: A superb looking cover with gorgeous artwork. The laminate is fresh, clear and shiny both sides. Fairly unusually too on this one, this is fully adhered with any minuscule trace of any lifting being on a less than moderate crease on the bottom edge. This and a few other small light surface creases is the only reason for a small mark-down from a still higher grading. Even under angled light, there is barely even a trace of any friction rubs or dulling the pure beauty of the artwork, the front especially is enjoyed to near maximum advantage. For a cover now over 40-year-old, this will take a fair amount of beating.

Top Edge: Unworn.

Bottom Edge: Almost the same with just a couple of mild burrs on the end back panel.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, sharp with no wear or feathering and guaranteed untrimmed. Record enters on this edge.

Spine and Text: Solid, straight with any compression light and small, the ends gently tapered in manufacture. All text is perfect and unworn under the solid and uncracked laminate.

Corners: Any tip rubs are tiny and faint and all retain excellent or better shape.

Cover Summary: A very strong all-round example of this lovely looking late 60’s cover, one that will prove very difficult to find much better with a first-issue blue label record inside. This beautiful item should please many, if not most collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: The Polydor-style polylined inner is included in very fine condition. Slight aged by mild darkening, mostly on the edge seams and there is one moderate corner crease and one much small one opposite. The window is immaculate with very clear, solid lining and all edges unsplit. This one is date coded 0170.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: Slightly difficult to put a definitive grade on this one: without doubt played little and carefully looked after. But under light, very fine whispy surface marks are seen, they have no sound whatsoever and audio quality of this vintage record is little short of perfect. So I will say arguably undergraded at near Excellent for visual and almost mint for sound. No doubt whatsoever, this has been hand cleaned with a cloth, a practice that can leave fine surface marks if done to vigoriously or with a cloth less suited to the job. Personally, I never use cloths on any record preferring specialist professional quality cleaning that leaves no marks, just ultra clean, grit-free surfaces and records that play unhindered by debris or static. Still a lovely looking visual copy that is very clean, shiny, intense black and heavily pressed. A copy with minimal plays on all the evidence. Visually a super record that should please many collectors but not the perfectionists.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This early-pressed, heavy record plays even above it’s high visual grading with nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds barely even registered and no pops or clicks were noted and this is an exceptional clean pressing. Few copies will match or outperform this copy significantly I feel sure with fully focused sound devoid of crackle. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record. This copy will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

All records are posted in professional thick boxes (NOT Mailers or Cruciforms, these do not offer maximum protection). SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT neccessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
