Per Wikipedia, Creedence Clearwater Revival, commonly abbreviated as CCR or simply Creedence, was an American rock band formed in El Cerrito, California, in 1959. The band consisted of lead vocalist, lead guitarist, and primary songwriter John Fogerty; his brother, rhythm guitarist Tom Fogerty; bassist Stu Cook; and drummer Doug Clifford. The band's most prolific and successful period, between 1969 and 1971, produced 14 consecutive top-10 singles (many of which were double A-sides) and five consecutive Top -10 albums in the United States, two of which—Green River (1969) and Cosmo's Factory (1970)—topped the Billboard 200 chart. The band performed at the 1969 Woodstock festival in upstate New York and was the first major act signed to appear there. CCR's music remains popular and is a staple of U.S. classic rock radio airplay. The album. Willy and the Poor Boys is the fourth studio album by Creedence Clearwater Revival, released on October 29, 1969, by Fantasy Records. It was the last of three studio albums the band released that year, arriving just three months after Green River. In 2020, Rolling Stone ranked the album number 193 on its list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time". Originally, the album was planned to be formed around a concept introduced in "Down on the Corner", with Creedence taking on the identity of an old-time jug band called "Willy and The Poor Boys". However, this was dropped rather quickly, except for the song "Poorboy Shuffle" and the album cover itself, where the band remains in character. "Down on the Corner" chronicles the tale of the fictional band Willy and the Poor Boys, and how they play on street corners to cheer people up and ask for nickels. The album was well received, exemplified by the original review in Rolling Stone, which stated it was the band's "best one yet".   This particular album was released on Nov. 2, 1969, 3 days following the official release date of Oct. 29. Whether this qualifies as a 1st edition will be left to the buyer. Nonethelss, the album was pressed at RCA's Hollywood pressing facility and consists of 10 tracks with a 34+ minutes. The cover is in VG+ condition with only mild wear on the bottom corners of the cover. There are no split seams and no evidence of disk ring wear. The plain paper inner sleeve is original and intact. The recording has been cleaned and tested and all tracks are free of skips. There is very little background noise, although, on testing, I detected one small "click" on Side 1, in the quiet space between tracks. This is a superb recording, the sound is strong and the music is clean. The vinyl surfaces show no sign of wear and no obvious defects. The recording played through loud and clear. This recording is from a private collection and is a one owner, who took the time to care for his recordings. By Goldmine standards for grading records, this recording will easily rate EX and is of "audiophile" quality. I enjoyed listening to this recording, and, I know you will too.
