Popular music has spawned many one-hit wonders. Crispian St Peters had the distinction of being a two-hit wonder, remembered for You Were On My Mind and The Pied Piper, both Top 10 hits in 1966, as well as for his extravagant stage name.
His first two singles for Decca, the self-penned At This Moment and No No No, were flops. David Nicolson (who originally spotted St Peters and arranged for him to be signed to Decca) was sent a copy of an American hit, You Were On My Mind, a wistful ballad composed by Sylvia Fricker of the folk duo Ian and Sylvia. When St Peters demurred at recording the song, Nicolson successfully appealed to his mother to persuade him. The track was arranged by organist Harry Stoneham and among the accompanists was Jimmy Page, future guitarist with the Yardbirds and Led Zeppelin.
You Were On My Mind was issued at the end of 1965 and early the following year it reached No 2 in the British charts. St Peters gave an interview to the New Musical Express in which he opined that his songs were better than those of the Beatles and that his stage show made Elvis Presley seem like the Statue of Liberty. He later claimed that it was all tongue in cheek, and the mild furore helped the sales of his next record, The Pied Piper, which was co-written by Artie Kornfield, later an organiser of Woodstock. The record was promoted by pirate radio stations, which helped it to reach No 5 in the British charts.

LABELS: The labels are clean, bright and fresh with just one (possibly two) light spindle traces - once/twice played (no doubt just to test the sound quality) - MINT-
VINYL Visual: The vinyl surfaces still retain their original deep glossy sheen and are practically unmarked - some light brush marks and very light misting on the last track on Side One ("You Were On My Mind") only - these marks however, have no audio consequence at all - EXCELLENT++
VINYL Audio: Outstanding audio delivery in every respect with a crystal clear, clean and fresh MONO cut - very sharp and bright. And on playback at a loud volume there are no major audio issues of note - the record plays beautifully and cleanly throughout. A couple of very minor light (and non intrusive) background 'ticks' on the beautiful "Willingly" are the only things detracting from a full MINT audio grading (and these really are incredibly minor) - NEAR MINT
SLEEVE: The front laminated flipback MONO sleeve is also in great shape. All edges are crisp and square with no real wear to speak of - all spine text is clear and bold. The front laminated surface has a beautiful deep glossy sheen with just a little record impression and the back is remarkably clean and white - EXCELLENT++
