Here’s a lovely copy of what I rate as one of the rarest UK major label albums of the late 60s / early 70s.
Crispian St. Peters had some brief chart action in 1966 (aided by Jimmy Page), then vanished from view for a few years, returning with this ultra-obscurity, which reminds me of John Stewart. It was taped in London’s Lansdowne Studios, with arrangements by ace guitarist ‘Big’ Jim Sullivan. As well as Sullivan, backing musicians include Nicky Hopkins and other session heavyweights.
The album came and went in the blinking of an eye, as did the Square label (whose name seems to have been chosen solely so its releases could say ‘A Square Record’ on them). The only other Square release I’ve encountered is the prog rock rarity Grandfather by Dear Mr. Time, and this is the only copy of Simply that I have ever seen.
SLEEVE
The laminated single sleeve is in EX to NM condition, with only very slight signs of wear.
VINYL
The disc is in outstanding NM condition, and has barely been played. It comes in its original inner sleeve.
LABELS
Both labels are in perfect condition, with no signs of use.
