BEST ALBUM SOUND POSSIBLE!  FANTASTIC CLARITY! and a piece of rock history

REFERENCE ACETATE made in ATLANTIC RECORDING STUDIOS

ORIGINAL 1969 US STEREO

12" L P ACETATE from ATLANTIC STUDIOS, 11 WEST 60TH ST, NYC

Side 1 Marix runoff:

ST-A-701829-B

Side 2 Matrix runoff: ST-A-701822 is crossed out, ST-A-701830 is written in larger, different handwriting

This is a reference disc cut at Atlantic Studios--not a test pressing from the pressing plant.  The labels are blank, with Atlantic Recording Studios address, the song titles typed in, and the sticker labels then placed on the blank acetates.  NOTE: "Almost Cut My Hair" is called "FEEL LIKE I OWE IT TO SOMEONE" on here, and "

Deja Vu " is "De Ja Vu ." and "4 & 20" is "Four and Twenty."

This is a true rarity, as the

long -awaited Deja Vu LP was being finished at the end of 1969.  This disc, cut at Atlantic Studios, comes from the master tape, and is a generation above anything from the pressing plant, as well as a piece of rock & roll history.

I played this once, to hear how it sounds.  I did not clean it, as I leave that to the new owner to clean it how they want.  But the sound that pours out of this disc....INCREDIBLE!  The bass booms clear and deep, the guitars shine and swoop, the keyboards have a clarity and presence (especially the organ that BLASTS at the end of "Everybody I Love You").  This is a top class band playing these classic songs--Dallas Taylor and Greg Reeves, with John Sebastian.  And oh yes--these guys on guitars--Stephen Stills, David Crosby, Neil Young and Jerry Garcia.  Neil's guitar bites hard in "Woodstock" and "Almost Cut My Hair"--great rockers.  And of course it is the harmonies--the sweet sweet Crosby, Still and Nash mixed in perfect balance with Neil Young--those harmonies are eternal, this a great album because of it.

This pressing well captures the sonic extremes on this disc--the flood of singing that is "Carry On" and leads to hushed building of "

Deja Vu ."  The quiet of "4 & 20" and stellar flat plains of "Helpless" sound pure and natural.  This is a great record, and this disc makes it come alive.

CONDITION:

SIDE ONE grades as EXCELLENT.  Very minor wear on the vinyl, and played beautifully with no background noise.

SIDE TWO grades as VERY GOOD ++.  There are a few markes on the vinyl, some light fingerprints.  Again, I have not cleaned this disc--I leave it to the new owner to do as they see fit.  Side Two plays with some occasional crackles, but no scratch sounds.  The crackles sound like they would be caused by dirt, fingerprints, smoke etc from over the past 40 years, and sound like they could be eliminated by a good cleaning.
