CTL 7088 NATHAN MILSTEIN BACH Sonata Partita SOLO VIOLIN UK Capitol FIRST
Bach: Partita No.2 in D minor / Sonata No.1 in G minor.
Nathan Milstein, Violin.Original 1955 UK Decca pressed Capitol mono LP, CTL 7008.
Earliest heavy pressing with dark green labels with gold print. Matrix numbers: P1-8298-Y-1B / P2-8298-Z-2B. Mothers/Stampers: U 1 / U 2.
Vinyl in generally very clean condition, and grades close to EX. Very few spider trail marks are detectable around the spindle areas and labels are still very bright with just a little natural loss to gilt lustre. The playing surfaces still have a very high gloss. Close inspection of the surfaces reveals barely any marks. There are just three slightly more visible scuff marks, but in all instances these are very small and cannot be felt.
Playback is very clean and free of ticks or clicks. There is no groove wear or distortion. Some very occasional background crackle is detectable, but this is not continuous throughout and not at a level which is distracting. This appears to be due to a comdination of the lighter marks mentioned and natural dust crackle, as I have not deep cleaned the surfaces.
Note that any visible dark marks to the vinyl in the photo are merely reflections.
Sleeve generally very clean and bright still and close to EX. No marks, penned inscriptions or sticker damage. Front and predominantly white rear panel still very acceptably bright, and rear backflaps undamaged. Just a touch of natural storage ringwear, without scuffing or wear to the sleeve. Edges, including entry side, are still crisp and unworn.
All in all, a very acceptably clean issue of a scarce early LP.
