COMMENTS: This is a KILLER STUFF, ace. I believe that this was recorded in Cuba back in 1940. TALK ABOUT SOME ROOTS!! Specifically, the music was recorded in Havana, Guanabocoa and Matanzas Province. I have had this record for decades and it has been well cared for and played very very lightly (like one time 40 years ago). This is a very scarce vinyl recording. Don't pass on it. Questions? Drop me a line. This is music passed on from a deep African tradition. Cult music from the Lucumi, the Arara, the Abakwa and the Kimbisa.
Music is played on traditional Afro-Cuban instruments. Some of the instruments played on the recording were most likely made by slaves born in Africa. There is a four page booklet that has photos of some of the instruments. This is a beautiful Folkways production. This is music that is deeply rooted in the tradition of west Africa. The drumming heard on this record Back in 1940 (and even in Castro Cuba) this music was just barely tolerated. Practitioners were frequently jailed by the authorities for
CONDITION: The record/vinyl is in superb NEAR MINT condition. The cover is in excellent+ condition with NO cutout marks, splits or writing. The labels are in perfectly fine, excellent+ condition. The spindle holes are strong and clean. The 4 page illustrated booklet is in excellent condition with no writing or stains.
Overall: Fantastic Condition
