  • Info: This husband and wife duo became a very popular act in bluegrass music for over four decades. Curly Dan learned guitar, mandolin and banjo and began playing and singing in local groups in his teens. Wilma Ann married Curly Dan in 1942, and in 1952, moved from West Virginia to Detroit, where Curly Dan found work with the Chrysler Corp. They became involved with the local music scene and in 1955, with Wilma Ann playing bass, they formed their Danville Mountain Boys, which for many years included Lester Flatt’s cousin Carmon Flatt. They made their first recordings the following year on the Fortune label. In 1961, they recorded ‘South On 23’, which became their signature tune on Happy Heart and proved popular enough for Starday to release it on their Nashville label. They subsequently recorded ‘North On 23’, which like many of their songs was biographical or relating to their home. (AllMusic)

                                                                                 GRADING STANDARDS:

Mint (M): A Mint record or picture sleeve must both appear to be absolutely perfect in every way. For this reason the grade is seldom used.
Near Mint (NM): Otherwise Mint, a nearly perfect record or picture sleeve will have only one or two minor flaws. Any visual mark on the record will be play-graded to confirm it does not affect the quality of play. Any specific flaws in either the record or picture sleeve will be noted in the item description.
Excellent (EX) or (VG++): Still very close to being nearly perfect, an excellent record or picture sleeve will have a minimum of audible or visual imperfections. Any visual mark on the record will be play-graded to confirm whether it affects the quality of play, and any noise disturbance will be noted in the item description.  Picture sleeves will show only minor signs of wear or age, with any blem also being noted in the item details.
Very Good Plus (VG+): The vinyl is considered a good playable copy that may display more signs of wear than a VG++ grade, but one's overall listening experience will still be positive. Picture sleeves may also display more signs of wear or aging, with any specific flaws in either the record or sleeve being noted in the item description.
Very Good (VG): Many of the defects seen in a VG+ record or picture sleeve will be more pronounced on a VG grade. The vinyl displays more visual blems, and even though surface noise is evident during play, it will still not overpower the music. Picture sleeves will also have more numerous visual blems. All flaws will be noted in the item description.
Good (G): A record in good condition can be put onto a turntable and will play through without any repeating "skips", although it will have more severe audible surface noise and scratches than a VG record. Picture sleeves will also have even more pronounced defects than a VG sleeve. This grade is usually reserved for impossibly rare records or picture sleeves that are otherwise unattainable.
