CURTIS COUNCE/BUDDY COLLETTE – JAZZ ON THE BOUNCE – BEL CANTO 1004 – BOXED BLUE LP - M-/VG+ - STEREO
This rare LP is a Dootsie Williams production, which issued unreleased takes in Stereo from previous Williams’ sessions. SIDE ONE features recordings the April 8, 1958 session, featuring Rolf Erikson on trumpet, Harold Land on tenor, Elmo Hope on piano, Curtis Counce on bass and Frank Butler on Drums. It includes MOVE (alt take); CHASIN’ THE BIRD and HEAD GEAR. SIDE TWO features a February 17, 1958 Williams’ session with Buddy Collette on clarinet, alto, tenor and flute, Al Viola on guitar, Wilfred Middlebrooks on bass and Earl Palmer on drums. The selections taken from that session are: THE MONSTER; SOFT TOUCH and BASS ROCK. The LP is a blue vinyl pressing. This is a STEREO recording.
I have graded this LP as M-/VG+ for the following reasons. The LP is actually a M-, as the vinyl is clean of any marks on either side, but there are a few marks around the spindle hole. The LP box has some deterioration. The LP is in its original sleeve. The bottom of the box is in very good condition. The cover has taped corners on it, as well as some wear along the bottom edge and the left side edge. The left lower corner has some damage. You can see it on the photo below.
