Description
This listing is for a hugely rare and very valuable Calypso 45 'Dance Marie Dance' by The Dutchy Brothers on the highly collectable En Cee label. First Pressing NC-2621. The Dutchy Brothers are also The 'Pete De Vlugt Orchestra' who are also credited.
Very little know about the label but The Dutchy Brothers band was one of the most popular bands with the youth of T&T in the late fifties into the sixties. The following is taken from an article about them.
The Dutchy Brothers of San Fernando, Trinidad were the sons of an immigrant from a neighboring Dutch colony (Suriname), a saxophone player called Leonard “Dutchy ” De Vlugt. As children, they were musical prodigies, regularly appearing on children musical radio shows (Auntie Kay’s show, for example), and as they grew, their band became one of the top dance bands in the Caribbean during the fifties and sixties.
Led by Pete De Vlugt on saxophone, the band included his brothers Eugene on bass, Orville on guitar, Rudolph on drums and Ottmar , a pianist whose virtuosity often led the band musically.
I should also mention that the great steelband arranger and musician Mr. Earl Rodney, was also once a member of the band, playing the bass guitar.
The focal point of much of the Dutchys’ music was their gifted pianist, Otmar De Vlught. A skilled and demonstrative player, he would mesmerize observers with his antics and expressions as he aggressively mastered the keyboards. The Dutchy brothers Band of San Fernando was a dominant force on the Trinidad music scene for years, and brought much joy to music lovers and party people of that era.

The record is graded Good+ as it plays pretty well all things considered. No jumps but plenty of hiss. It would benefit from a professional cleaning, rather than my cheaper manual cleaning machine. It has lots of light scratches but no majot scratches
A very rare 45. They were not made in great numbers and you find me another one. Very few have survived.
As there is no real precedent set with sales. I'm starting the bidding at £1.00 with no reserve so it can find it's own value.
Plays really well in my opinion but please listen for your self but forgive the poor sound quality as it is recorded on a phone and my speakers are a bit old now.
Both sides play pretty well. The youtube clip doesn't do it justice.
Please check out the play in the clips/links provided so you can judge for yourselves. The sound quality isn't great but at least it gives you an idea.
An extremely rare and collectable record.
The record will be packed safely & securely and sent by trackable mail.
No reserve on this item but i'm starting the bidding at £50 as i love this tune and would rather keep it and play out with it then sell it for less.
Please bid with absolute confidence, there's 100% money back guarantee on this item.
Feel free to email me any questions you may have.
Lots of early Reggae and Northern Soul to list so check out my listings over the next few weeks.
