Blue & Black Hexagon labels
1st Pressing of their 1973 debut album, simply entitled Camel. UK pressing MCA MUPS 473. Importantly this is with the blue / black record labels, rather than any later second pressing on purely black labels (also MUPS 473) or any later catalogue numbers such as MCF 2665 or MCL1601.
The matrix no’s are:
Side 1: 7-LNMG-275-2L 1 I (Matrix stamper no.5)
Side 2: 7-LNMG-276-1L 1 B (Matrix stamper no.1)
Hardly ever comes up for sale in the form of this very first blue/ black label original MCA “Hexagon pressing. Early mother stampers of I and B in the Decca BUCKINGHAM sequence.
Condition: As my grading below suggests this record is in reasonably good condition throughout with no major defects. There is some moderate wear as noted below.

Detailed grading:
Outer Sleeve: Overall the sleeve is in VG condition. It is a generally clean example with no major staining or writing. There are just a few light marks and general wear to the front cover, including a number of generally light creases. The back cover also has some general wear but is mainly clean which given its white colour is somewhat unusual to find. Overall the sleeve is of reasonable collectable quality.
Record: Overall the record is in VG- condition. The record still retains its original deep gloss, these MCA pressings in my opinion were some of the highest quality records made during the 70’s, being very solid and having a general feeling of quality. On this example there are a moderate amount of hairline marks across both sides and on side 2 there are a couple of slightly heavier but very thin marks across part of the last 2 tracks. It is still a reasonable copy and the above points are noted but do not significantly detract.
Playback is Very Good + and better than the visual grading. I played this LP carefully on my Project desk with Ortofon cartridge. It plays well with some moderate surface noise through the quieter passages and some occasionally louder clicks on side 2. It plays through both sides without any skips or jumps. I also note there is a slight edge warp in one small cross section, which is only noticeable when the record is on a turntable but this did not cause any issues with playback with my deck.
Labels. EX , both labels are clean with light spindle marks which are only visible when the record is held up to strong light.
The record also comes with its original polylined sleeve, which is in EX condition. The sleeve is marked 5-73 indicating manufacture in May 1973, which is consistent with the early matrix numbers, as the LP was first released in Feb 1973.
Overall - I grade fairly but conservatively. This is a reasonable example of this amazingly rare 1st press of this LP in VG- to VG condition. This LP fetches about £150 to £200 in EX condition, this is a chance to own this rare LP at a reasonable price.
