Description
Can - Ege Bamyasi
I am pleased to offer for sale this exceptional copy of Can's third studio album, Ege Bamyasi.
Tago Mago, Can's second 'studio' album, established the band as pre-eminent members of the German, and European, avant-garde music scene. However, it was the commercial success of the single "Spoons" that afforded the band the freedom to explore the 'Inner Space' (the name of their ex-cinema recording studio) from which Ege Bamyasi emerged. Although best known for 'Vitamin C' and 'I'm So Green', the album is a tour-de-force of progressive, psychedelic rock that continues to influence musicians to this day.
This particular copy is a simply stunning 'final upgrade' example of a true German produced UK first pressing that would make a fantastic addition to any record collection.
Album Details:
Serial number: UAS 29414
Matrix number: A2/C3A 'Made in Germany' / B1/C3A 'Made in Germany'
Mother & stamper codes: N/A
The matrix numbers inform us that the vinyl is a first pressing that was produced by Sonopress in Germany for the UK market. Consequently, the audio reproduction is simply fantastic. Take a listen yourself below.
The labels are the first variant United Artists Records labels in which the text 'Manufactured in England' has been covered by a black marker pen.
The laminated gatefold sleeve is the first variant.
Completing the album is the original die-cut inner sleeve that, amongst much other text, has a Shakespeare quote printed upon it. Unfortunately, like the majority of copies, the poster was not included with this record.
Condition Report:
The condition report provided below is given as a guide only. I include high-quality, comprehensive photographs as well as a complete audio recording in my listings to enable you to make an informed decision on the condition of this record yourself.
Vinyl: MINT -
Labels: MINT -
The labels are bright, clean and without writing. No spindle wear is visible.
Visual: MINT -
The record retains immaculate deep-gloss playing surfaces which are blemish free in bright daylight. Under the glare of a halogen desk lamp wispy paper hairline marks can be seen alongside an iridescent rainbow sheen. Truly fantastic.
Sound Quality: MINT -
Please use the eBay internet site to enjoy the audio clips. The eBay app does not facilitate playback.
Side 1:
Side 2:
As can be heard in the audio clips, the vinyl sounds stunning. Both lead-ins are quiet. Minimal static can be heard in between tracks. There is great channel separation, superb clarity and exceptional dynamism. It would be very difficult to find a better example of this record.
Sleeve: MINT -
The original sleeve looks superb! Both the front and rear are bright and clean. The cover art is vibrant and is without any sign of discolouration. The corners are sharp. The spine and edges are without wear. The only clue that the sleeve is 51 years old are a couple of small bubbles in the laminate at the spine.
Inner Sleeves: MINT -
It is rare that I grade an inner sleeve as mint- but I feel that is appropriate in this case. The corners are crisp, there are no creases and only very subtle ring wear. Superb.
Additional Details:
Before the audio test was performed the vinyl was cleaned first by an Okki Nokki vacuum cleaner (using L'art du Son cleaning solution) and then an Audio Desk ultrasonic cleaner.
After cleaning, the vinyl is housed inside a brand new mobile fidelity anti-static inner sleeve.
The vinyl will be packaged outside of the sleeve, both of which are stored inside an archival quality polypropylene outer sleeve.
The record will be sent via an insured courier in a padded vinyl mailer.
Please see my other listings for more Island and proggy rarities.
