This handsome LP from La Voix de son Maitre (FALP 446, French Pathe-Marconi pressing, blue/silver label, mono “baguette”-style jacket, dowel spine, booklet included) features conductor Guido Cantelli and the NBC Symphony Orchestra’s resplendent account of Cesar Franck’s Symphony in D minor, richly recorded at Studio 8-H, Rockefeller Center, New York, on 6 May 1954.
Wrote the erudite and eloquent critic Roger Dettmer for ClassicalCDReview.com:
“You can take or leave the Franck, as music, but Cantelli's is a noble conception, without the usual rhetorical bloat or mauve icing (which the piece already suffers from), and will stay on my shelves because, dry acoustic or no -- and many worse came out of Studio 8-H -- the coupled Haydn is immaculately played and impeccably stylish, albeit without repeats. Here Mohr's engineer was Fred Lynch, and his co-producer LeRoy Shields, names I don't know but whose collaborative proficiency is admirable.”
This album was produced by Richard Mohr and engineered by Fred Lynch. Incidentally, the superlative liner notes on the reverse in the small accompanying booklet were written by Jean-Jacques Normand and are provided in French only. The striking album design was executed by Atelier Cassandre.

With packaging, this particular issue will weigh over 500 g. This means that outside of Europe the cost for shipping is about $22 USD, and that is just for standard airmail. Certified airmail (with a tracking number) costs $25 USD.

CONDITION – PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the cardboard “baguette”-style jacket is VERY GOOD+. There is light wear and discoloration along the edges, but really that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, and highly attractive in appearance – overall, this rates as a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the dowel spine is EXCELLENT – a fine copy. The booklet with the liner notes is similarly EX.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not perfectly silent, really this is a fine copy and playback is quite enjoyable. If you must have a flawless or NM copy, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, rates as an excellent collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
