Encores, Nathan Milstein (Violin) and Leon Pommers (Piano) Capitol STEREO Recording, very rare and desirable. In the thousands of classical LP's I have seen, I have only ever seen this LP once, here it is

For the die hard Milstein collector this weeks auctions feature 7 Milstein pressings, along with other rare violin pressings, COMING THIS WEEK

This LP fully cleaned and test played prior to listing, also treated with 'LAST' RECORD CLEANER AND PRESERVATIVE.

IF this was an original US or UK pressing, some on line retailers value it in mint condition over $500aud. The good news is this plays like mint, but has a cover seam split and label damage,( details below).

This is however an Australian LP, it is in an American  original Capitol  cover, (hence the seam split, if you know what I mean!!).

The keen starting price for this LP reflects that this is an AUSTRALIAN pressing, NOT THE UK or US PRESSING.

CONDITION  (summary, more detail further down)

 LP is very clean looking for its age,AND GAVE NO EVIDENCE OF WEAR OR  DAMAGE DURING TEST PLAYING.  I CAN ONLY  SEE ONE NON SOUNDING PAPER SCUFF ABOUT 2.5 CM LONG, but too fine to get a photograph of, (I TRIED!!) and the label has some damage both sides,mainly side 1.  THE REST, DARE I SAY IT IS extremely clean and silent on test play.

LABELS

See Photo's, top of side two label torn off, and two sections at 4 O'clock and 9 O'clock have appeared to lose their shiny surface, almost like a de-lamination, because the result is a matt finish rather than the semi lustre on the rest of the label. Originally I thought it was one label stuck over the top of another one, but I don't think so. Also the tear may have been from when some form of square sticker immediately below the tear was removed, holding LP on angled light shos a previous overlay over the 'Milstein Encores' heading. Go figure..... coz I can't, all I know is it plays very cleanly.   

No Obvious rotational spindle marks, but with a torn label, does that detail matter?

I try to test play as best as I can all my auction items that start for more than 20AUD per disc. As far as I know EMI australia pressed these from a set of original Capitol Stampers.

Hopefully you can see one of the stampers on the supersize photo's, they are in a thick bold itallic(?) style of lettering.

 I dare say as OZ only had 12 million population in the 60's, the number of these still in existence would be far fewer than from the UK or USA where there  were lots more potential 'buyers' for their pressings.

Condition (detailed)

I have supplied 6 super size photo's of various aspects, There are very few quiet pops and ticks spasmodically thru out the record, it is nearly 50 yrs old after all, but specific areas of small damage, if any, are as follows

SIDE TWO One very small paper scuff, looks like faint hairline (2.5cm long) visually, on track 1 into track 2 but makes absolutely no sound. Otherwise......looks like a new record!!. you'll have to look hard to find even a hint of a paper cover scuff. Sounds like its been played only once or twice before I test played it, even the run in and run off areas are quiet,

SIDE ONE  as per side one very clean looking, NO OBVIOUS SCUFFS OR SCRATCHES just a few intermittent unrepetitive quiet clicks throughout. Run in and run out areas are quiet and damage free.

Record came to me obviously cared for. However I HAVE  cleaned it  with a Knosti record cleaner, then treated with LAST "power cleaner" and LAST "record preservative" (said to protect from playing wear for up to 200 'plays'). Most audiophiles such as yourselves are probably already using this or similar, I have just saved you the time and expense.
COVER Condition

It has some mild rubbing of the US Printed  laminated cover,with NO ring wear. Cover is too thick a cardboard for that, but the American seams have ripped on top seam for about 12cm(5"). No other seam damage apparant (see photo's of damage, photo 6)

The rear card is  well maintained,  cardboard rubbing of the surface is very minimal.  some very minor yellowing or rubbed in dust stains.

The original  inner sleeve was only a plain plastic sleeve in Australia, and having just  cleaned the LP so well, I am supplying a more modern archive quality sleeve with anti stat and no scratching properties.  This is from the modern audiophile company Mobile Fidelity (MFSL) and is standard issue with their vinyl pressings.
