redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This fascinating and rare LP from Colosseum (CLPS 1038, US pressing, red/gold label – ED1, mono – no stereo edition exists) features what must surely have been first recordings of Alfredo Casella’s Scarlattiana for Piano and Chamber Orchestra Op. 44 (a work now enjoying something of a revival on record) and Ildebrando Pizzetti’s Danza Bassa dello Sparviero,both with conductor Franco Caracciolo directing the Scarlatti Orchestra di Napoli. In the Casella, the splendid pianist is Tina de Maria. Amazingly for the time, these are “live” performances, most likely eminating from radio broadcasts, and they sound truly superb here, “caught on the wing” as it were and imbued with a real sense of occasion.
There are superb liners notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Wanda C. von Rudolph-Ronty. The striking cover design was executed by Kuhlman.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD+. There is slight edgewear and mild discoloration, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, owners' markings, bends, or other defects, and the whole remains solid, bright, and highly attractive in appearance – overall, a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, really this is a fine copy and the playback is enjoyable. Those requiring a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this is an excellent collector's copy.
