Description

This auction is for my copy of 'In the Land of Grey and Pink' by Caravan

Released in 1971, it has a brown/white Deram label

Looking through other listings of this album the matrix numbers all appear the same – ZAL 10424/5. P1D with some ebayers say that the first pressing also has a red/white label. I am confused! From a website called discogs.com the following is mentioned:

First pressing released in a fold-out cover on a brown/white Deram label with brown track listing print
The second pressing has a red/white label and retains the fold-out cover with black track listing print
The third pressing has a red/white label and a single cover

There is also the question of laminated sleeves – I am presuming they were the first to be released?

Looking through other listings there appears to be 2 types of the brown label. One is identical to the red/white label except for being brown of course. The other has ‘Deram’ in larger white letters in the brown semi-circle and no horizontal writing at the bottom of the semi-circle. Which came out first I don’t know. I suspect it might be the latter as it more like the Deram releases of the late 60s such as Ten Years After albums. Anybody out there have any thoughts?

Anyway my copy has the larger Deram lettering as you can see from the pictures

Front laminated gatefold cover has a few light creases/marks but generally in excellent condition. Spine very strong

Blue Decca sleeve excellent condition

Vinyl shows very little signs of use and plays very well. Nice sheen. Nice heavy vinyl at 165g

A great copy of this highly recommended album by a superb classic Canterbury prog/rock group and perhaps the earliest variant?
