Play-graded using a 1970's BSR record player, 33/45/78 with a stylus for 78 rpm records. 

 

Carola Neher/Kurt Gerron/Arthur Schroeder and the Threepenny Opera Band: Medley, Parts 1 and 2. Recorded in 1929 (per LOC Performing Arts Database).

The second side contains what is perhaps the first recorded version of “Mack the Knife,” sung by original cast member Kurt Gerron. Both Gerron and Neher’s lives ended tragically. The former was murdered in the gas chamber at Auschwitz in October 1944. Neher, a member of the German Communist Party, left Germany for the Soviet Union, but was denounced as a Trotskyite during the Great Purge of 1936-37. She was sentenced to ten years in prison, and died of typhus in 1942. Both Gerron and Neher appeared in the German-language version of the 1931 film.

 

Except for a few light scuffs, looks as though it has just been brought home from the record shop.

 

Both sides play E-/E very light surface noise. Neat acoustics to this record.
