Cavalera is still one of the most famous family names in metal, and two brothers known as Max and Igor, who were both part of the legendary Brazilian Thrash Metal act; SEPULTURA, reunited through the strength of their passion of metal and joined forces years ago once again, under the title; CAVALERA CONSPIRACY. And of course, they’re back for more thrash tracks to punish the ears of many, with their third release; ‘Pandemonium’.
From what starts out as a very dramatic introduction, with the sound of war taking place in the background, building up the tension, ‘Babylonian Pandemonium’; the first track, then gets right into what seems like the darkest and most aggressive track on the album, with deeper and more antagonistic vocals. You can definitely pick up that the Cavalera’s have gone towards more death metal tactics, with old elements of NAILBOMB and their time in SEPULTURA. ‘Bonzai Kamikazee’, ‘I, Barbarian’ and ‘Scum’ have shown that CAVALERA CONSPIRACY have become a more intimidating entity, and that their work from their previous album ‘Blunt Force Trauma’ has improved incredibly.
Obviously, the metal blood between brothers Max and Igor stills breeds really aggressive material. Max can still live up to his speed and hostile riffs with lead guitarist Marc Rizzo. Rizzo is definitely an underrated one that deserves more praise than he usually gets. With his curb-crushing solos going at full velocity in tracks such as ‘Cramunhao’, ‘Insurrection’ and ‘Father of Hate’, the man makes ‘Pandemonium’ all the more, musically chaotic on six strings. Igor, like his brother Max, hasn’t gotten any slower or offbeat in the album. For one, his speed and timing are as adjusted as ever, and Igor’s technique from his time in SEPULTURA has still been recognised as an iconic style in metal all around the world.
The Cavalera’s have definitely built up more brutal tension in this album, compared to their last two releases. The riffs, vocals and drum kicks all leave the groove metal side of CAVALERA CONSPIRACY and go full throttle with much more slaughtering elements of death and thrash metal. But, don’t let the album cover tell you otherwise, as this feels to be the most brutal Cavalera project release to date. And while Max’s work in the newly formed supergroup KILLER BE KILLED and SOULFLY still remains loyal and insane, the work with his brother Igor, from whence they began SEPULTURA, is what represents true teamwork in metal.
