 For auction is an ultra rare audition copy of Blue Note 4260- Cecil Taylor- Conquistador. This is one of the first liberty press records (4258 was the first) and mono pressings were not issued except in the rare instances when they were given to radio stations. Tough to find.

I will very conservatively grade the cover a strong VG. There is light ringwear as can be seen in the photo. There is a mono lp sticker on the front cover. The top seam is beginning to split. About 2' from the opening. Otherwise the seams and spine are fully intact.

I just listened to the lp in its entirety. It plays throughout without any pops or ticks. During some of the quiet moments there was some light noise. I will call it a play graded strong VG+.
Visually, side one is extremely glossy with it's original sheen but on close inspection has some light non feelable marks. Strong VG+. Side two does not show these marks and is NM.

I myself am a collector and can be quite fussy about grading (see below). I have tried to be as critical as possible when grading this collectible record. Most would just look at the lp and call it NM. Overall, it is in excellent collectible condition especially for such a difficult copy to obtain. Good luck and email me with questions.


Grading is very strict. I have bought several lp’s on ebay that are listed as NM and when I receive them they are more like VG. My grading system is as follows:

Vinyl:

NM: pristine. The highest possible grade for an ultra clean record.

VG+: an excellent, clean record. May have an inaudible scuff or two, or light noise during a quiet moment, but still a very clean nice record.

VG: some noise and surface marks. Still very listenable- imperfections are more visual than audible

VG-: will play with some noise and occasional pops or ticks. Definately some visual defects, but still playable for those who are not too particular about having mint records.

G+: A beat up record. Plays with noise, pops, ticks and even a possible skip. I wont list a record in this condition unless it is particularly collectible.

Covers:

NM: perfect

VG+: Clean, but may have a slight corner ding. If it is still quite shiny but has extremely light ringwear, with perfect edges and seams I may call it VG+.

VG: may have some edge and seam or ring wear. OK but not good enough for the pickiest collectors

VG-: probably has some significant edge, ring or seam wear that will be stated in description and likely visible in photo.

G+: beat up.

I will occasionally add an adjective such as strong or weak, but for the most part this grading system suffices. If it says VG+/VG+ you can be confident that you are receiving a nice clean record. None of this VG+++ business.
