This is an original issue of the album on RCA's “Neon” label.

The outside of the gatefold sleeve is grimy with a patch where a sticker has been removed. There is a crest which is gritty to the touch. Those features, a coffee stain and the name Tony written on the back put this to good* condition.

The inside is excellent. This shows a group photograph of most of the musicians involved in this project. This composite is from an era when cut and paste was exactly that.

Separate photographs of the inside and outside sleeves are included.

The inner sleeves are plain paper and do not match. I gather the originals where black.

Both discs are in excellent* condition. Under electric light I can see a few light lines but nothing that stops this album sounding excellent.

You should check out the quality on the attached eCommerce Player. (In fact my request/demand is that you listen before placing any bid.) You would know it was vinyl but I guess that's what you are seeking.

(This album recorded on my Rega 3 turntable using “Audacity”, exported as 128 kbps MP3 files and uploaded into eCommerce Player. No editing whatsoever and with the lead in and lead outs as they happened.)

The mainstays of this giant band were Keith and Julie Tippett augmented by a host of players from British Rock and Jazz. Brian Godding and Brian Belshaw from Blossom Toes, Robert Wyatt, Roy Babbington and Elton Dean from Soft Machine, Karl Jenkins, Jeff Clyne, John Marshall and Ian Carr of Nucleus.

Complicated with various players popping up in different bands. You already know this so I'll stop now!

I guess the name came from the 50 or so musicians involved.

The small print even lists my Pembrokeshire neighbours Rod and Nick Bell as taking care of the lighting. Might dash down the Druidstone Hotel later and ask Rod what he recalls of the few dates this vast band undertook. I note that one date was Bristol University Students Union, close to the Tippetts home in Bath.

I bet the gigs at Rottedam and Bordeaux took some organising. (Though any touring Orchestra would be of that size I guess).

Record Collector Magazine's Grading Guide:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
