Baron Elmo proudly presents a rare gem of an album for those who love the dark, mysterious and very beautiful sounds of Texas rock mystics CHARALAMBIDES: their debut release, Our Bed is Green, first released by the band as a cassette in 1992, issued on disc (with over half an hour of music removed) on their own Wholly Other imprint two years later, finally made available on vinyl in this gorgeously packaged double LP version in 2005 by the Time-Lag label in a hand-numbered edition of 800 copies (this one is #137). The music of Charalambides is difficult to encapsulate in mere words, but it might best be described as a primitive psychedelic folk, combining song structure with improvisation to achieve a blisslike state capable of leaving the adventurous listener utterly entranced. Spacious, droning soundscapes (transformed extensively in the group’s home studio), torrents of echoing electric guitar, bursts of lysergically-cured noise, stark acoustic ur-folk… these sounds and more embody the pneuma of Charalambides. At this point in their history, the group was a duo consisting of Tom and Christina Carter, with the question of who plays what here up for grabs. The lion’s share of the music is guitar-based, with what sounds like occasional bits of organ here and there. The lovely vocals of Christina Carter adorn several tracks. Fans of such musical mavericks as Dead C, Alastair Galbraith, Loren Mazzacane Connors, Vibracathedral Orchestra, Six Organs of Admittance, and even John Fahey should make the investigation of Charalambides an immediate priority… and Our Bed is Green is a strong contender for the group’s all-time finest. What's more, you'll be blown away by the beauty of this set in this definitive vinyl edition. Two records, over 90 minutes of music pressed on luscious 180 gram audiophile vinyl, nicely packed in a handmade, screenprinted tri-fold wraparound sleeve with new liner notes by Tom Carter on the inside. Just holding this beautiful object in your hands will make you feel good... and the music will surely transport your mind to Regions Beyond. Our Bed is Green is long unavailable on CD (which, as we mentioned, was considerably shorter anyhow), and the 800 copies of this vinyl edition sold out within days. This particular copy was purchased new and has never been played, so the vinyl is stone mint, while the cover shows tiny hints of wear here and there around the edges and a slightly crumpled lower right-hand corner.
