Description

I am sad to see this record go.  It is one of my favorites.  The album probably needs no introduction.  It’s simply one of the best records from one of jazz’s greatest composers and instrumentalists.  Mingus has the ability to articulate and project his sound like few others making this record a transcendent listening experience; his solo on mood indigo is sublime.  The vinyl and the gatefold jacket are in remarkable condition.  The sound is stunning as it is on many original Impulse records and the sturdy gatefold jacket has much of it's original gloss with only some wear to the corners and slight staining on the inside

This is an original white label promo pressing from the early sixties in mono.  Many people consider these records to be the first pressings, test pressings if you will, that were circulated among industry people before the release of the record.  VAN GELDER is stamped into the dead wax and also hand etched is A-54 A, A-54 B on the respective sides nothing else, very minimal.  Bob Simpson is credited as recording engineer in the liner notes so it seems strange to me that Rudy Van Gelder had his name stamped in the vinyl.  Perhaps he had something to do with the mastering and pressing of the vinyl.

Labels: NM

Jacket: EX+ (beautiful sturdy and glossy gatefold, there is slight staining on inside of gatefold and some wear to the corners)

Vinyl: EX+ - NM (loud and clear sound, minimal surface noise here and there, beautiful, beautiful sound!)
