Charlie Parker Cool Blues/Quasimado DIAL 1015 Sleeve Signed By Son Baird.
Baird Parker was one of the two children that came from the marriage of Charlie “Bird” Parker and Chan Richardson. Eventually he ended up residing in Lansdale PA, working at a local supermarket and running a recording studio. I personally met him a few times before he passed a few years ago, a very nice guy who was able to talk openly about the pressures of being a jazz icon’s son.
On the generic sleeve Baird had written “ To Fred, a really nice guy and friend. With all of my love, Baird” and also “Baird Parker 91150 Champmotteux, France”. The significance of that address is that his mother Chan Parker lived there until she passed in 1999.
The hand written note and address are authentic and really add to the provenance for his father’s 78 RPM recording.
This is a used record, the surface of the record is still glossy, the vinyl has a few scratches or scuffs but nothing significant. The label is very discolored on side A and has small rips on side B. The overall grade would be VG, but VG+ just for the vinyl.
This is a unique find. Having at one time been owned by Charlie Parker’s son, this 1949 recording could very well have been handed down from his father. Truly a piece of history, and a must have for fans of Charlie “Bird” Parker.
